The Coordinator provides technical oversight for Point of Care Testing (POCT) and Provider Performed Microscopy Procedures (PPMP) performed at ambulatory office sites throughout Union Health.
You would ensure POCT/PPMP test systems, training, competency, quality control, policies and procedures, proficiency testing, inspections, and related LIS/EHR processes are maintained accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with regulatory and accreditation standards.
This role reports to the Laboratory Director or their designee.

- Technical oversight of POCT and PPMP programs across ambulatory office sites.
- Regulatory and accreditation inspection readiness, including CLIA-related coordination.
- Quality control review, troubleshooting, corrective action documentation, and QA/PI reporting.
- Training and competency assessment development for clinical staff.
- Validation and verification planning for new instruments, methods, and tests.
- LIS/EHR support, billing process testing, and online policy/procedure maintenance.
- Cross-functional leadership with nursing, physicians, practice leaders, laboratory leadership, and clinic staff.
Point of Care Testing / Laboratory Successes and Designation
- Supports consistent, compliant POCT/PPMP operations across Union Health ambulatory office sites.
- Provides primary support for on-site inspections, surveys, CLIA certificate applications, and inspection readiness activities.
- Helps identify and correct performance issues through quality control statistics, proficiency testing review, method comparisons, validation/verification studies, and documented corrective actions.
- Collaborates with clinic and laboratory partners to improve quality, cost, workflow, and budgeting related to POCT/PPMP services.
Point of Care Testing / Laboratory Training & Onboarding Culture
- Coordinates training assessments and maintains teaching/training materials.

- Provides staff support through service ticket review, online policy/procedure resources, and regular communication with managers.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide technical oversight for POCT and PPMP performed at ambulatory office sites throughout Union Health.
- Ensure test systems are properly functioning; maintain, troubleshoot, and take corrective action with equipment as needed.
- Work with nursing, physicians, employees, and management to ensure POCT/PPMP testing runs efficiently and effectively.
- Travel to each site performing POCT/PPMP on a regular and scheduled basis.
- Coordinate training and competency assessments; develop and maintain teaching, training, and competency materials.
- Provide primary support for on-site inspections and surveys; participate in inspection readiness for regulatory and accreditation agencies.
- Write and maintain current POCT/PPMP policy and procedure manuals; assist with development, maintenance, and control of related policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with other departments and clinic staff to develop methods or systems for improving quality, costs, and budgeting associated with POCT/PPMP.
- Provide leadership for the testing, interpretation, and reporting of results.
- Review quality control for problem identification and troubleshooting; use quality control statistics, method comparisons, and proficiency testing results to identify and correct performance problems.
- Develop and oversee validation/verification studies for new instruments, methods, and tests.
- For locations that perform external proficiency testing for PPMP, coordinate, monitor, and ensure all required proficiency testing is performed and submitted according to accrediting agency regulations.
- Ensure graded proficiency surveys are reviewed and signed by the CLIA lab director; assist the lab director with appropriate follow-up actions as necessary or indicated by accrediting agencies.
- Maintain records showing that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
- Stay current with new technologies and methodologies; make recommendations to the management team.
- Assist with maintaining inventory and supplies for Point of Care testing.
- Support point-of-care related information systems, including implementation and validation of new software and test systems.
- Build and maintain POCT/PPMP policies and procedures available to all staff online.
- Assist with building and testing billing processes related to POCT/PPMP tests; review and respond to POCT/PPMP service tickets as necessary.
- Create initial CLIA applications and submit updates to CLIA certificates as necessary.
- Provide regular updates to the practice manager, practice supervisor, and CLIA lab director regarding POCT/PPMP operations for each respective office.
- Review POCT test logs for technical and/or clerical errors and problems.
- Collect and evaluate QA, PI, and Quality Control data from POCT/PPMP testing sites, and report data to the practice manager, laboratory manager/director, lab quality analyst, or their designees on a monthly basis.
- Document corrective actions taken to correct problems; review required instrument maintenance and calibration activities, if applicable.
- Attend appropriate meetings as assigned, participate in continuing education, and communicate regularly with managers to relay problems or concerns.
- May perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director or their designee.
Qualifications:
- Minimum education required: Bachelor's degree in a Chemical, Physical, Biological or Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), or Medical Technology (MT).
- Preferred education: Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) or Medical Technology (MT).
- Minimum experience required: Two years' experience in a clinical laboratory with emphasis on skills related to the work area.
- Preferred experience: Three years' experience in a clinical laboratory with emphasis on skills related to the work area.
- Ability to travel to ambulatory office sites on a regular and scheduled basis.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with nursing, physicians, employees, clinic staff, managers, laboratory leadership, and accrediting agency representatives.
