Job description

SRNL's Material Testing Laboratory is seeking an experienced Laboratory Specialist to support its operation of the Material Test Facility (MTF) for the Savannah River Tritium Enterprise. Candidates are expected to provide support for facility modification projects, train and assist MTF personnel in laboratory operations, and assist laboratory management in coordinating laboratory operations to meet the surveillance mission schedule.


  • The successful candidate will be expected to communicate with stakeholders via daily Tier Board meetings, Plan-of-the-Day meetings, facility outage meetings, Task Previews, Job Site Reviews, Pre-job and Post-job briefings, and maintenance schedule meetings.
  • Work with procurement specialists to purchase laboratory materials, plan and maintain inventories, and reduce waste where possible.
  • Lead housekeeping and waste evolutions, ensuring activities are completed in accordance with standard operating procedures and Conduct of Operations.
  • Serve as an interface for any Outside Workgroups for hardware and software changes impacting Material Testing Laboratory.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining staff maintenance schedules including tickler rotations, pinch welds, housekeeping, and the group attendance calendar.
  • Assist the group manager in improving operational management systems, processes, and best practices.
  • Assist Lead Engineer, Life Storage Coordinator, and the group manager in meeting operational targets as defined in the Reservoir Surveillance Operations schedule.
  • Assist with other activities as directed by group management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Science/Engineering related field and 5 years' experience, Associate Degree in Science/Engineering related field and 10 years' experience, or 15 years' experience.
  • Must be able to start and accomplish tasks independently.
  • Must be able to secure and maintain a Q-clearance; U.S. Citizenship is legally required.
  • Must have R&D laboratory experience.
