Reports To:                   Manager, Material Control                                                                  Dept:    Material Control

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY

SALARY $24 - $31

MONDAY - FRIDAY FROM 7:00 AM TO 4:00 PM 

Job Description:

Compiles and maintains material parts inventory and status information to expedite movement of material and parts between production areas according to predetermined schedules and shop order priorities: Reads and monitors production schedules, inventory reports, and shop orders to determine type and quantity of material required, and availability of stock, and order priority. Confers with department supervisors to determine overdue shop orders and parts and informs supervisors of material status. Locates and distributes material to specified production areas. May direct Material Control Attendants to expedite transfer of materials from stock to production areas. Will examine material received, verify part numbers, and check discrepancies. Will resolve problems that are stopping orders from being completed to expedite work. Monitors production schedule and expedites the flow of materials through production areas. Liaison between Purchasing and Production Engineering to ensure on time delivery of material, or advises of any schedule changes. Communicates schedules and deadlines to all internal departments. Responsible to execute action sheets distributed by departments.

Job Specification:

  • Ability to read or decipher drawings, ability to interact with production engineering, purchasing, and production.
  • Must have a proven record of Materials and interdepartmental coordination to maintain company production and delivery schedules.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Must have prior experience in planning of materials in rail car or manufacturing closely related industry.
  • A college degree in materials or related business may substitute for some experience.
  • Must have a proven record of materials and interdepartmental coordination
  • At a minimum, three (3) years of work experience in a material control stockroom or related capacity, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must know how to use a tape measure, and hand tools.
  • Must be proficient in English measurement system and the Metric system.
  • Must know basic arithmetical computation and have excellent counting skills.
  • Must be capable of working in an active manufacturing environment, be able to climb stairs and ladders, and be able to lift, push or pull at a minimum 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to operate fork trucks or the ability to learn in a short period of time.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
