Job description

The Opportunity:
Avantor is looking for a 1st Shift Maintenance Technician and a 2nd Shift Senior Maintenance Technician to join our team in Carpinteria, CA.
The Technician will install, maintain, and/or repair manufacturing equipment and fixtures, electrical systems and heating and cooling equipment.
Work Schedule:
  • 1st Shift Maintenance Technician: 7am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday
  • 2nd Shift Sr. Maintenance Technician: Monday-Friday, 3pm-11:30pm.

What we're looking for:
  • Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent degree required. Technical school preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 1-5+ years related maintenance experience to include: electrical, welding, motors, rigging, plumbing, pumps, pneumatic, hydraulic and fabrication.
  • Electrical & Controls Automation experience required.
  • Must have motors & controls experience. 3ph & 1ph.
  • Additional Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with operation and troubleshooting of mechanical systems to aid in the evaluation of electrical vs other causes.
  • Proficiency in use of electrical measurement devices.
  • Understanding of physical electrical laws and relationships, safety requirements, procedures, hazardous area wiring and electrical requirements, wire gauge size requirements, and conduit/cable running.
  • Experience using maintenance software such as e-maintenance.
  • Ability to adhere to all safety rules and regulations while executing quality and timely work.

How you will thrive and create an impact:
  • Conduct general maintenance activities primarily on machinery and related equipment, troubleshoots problems and escalate issues as needed.
  • Perform maintenance or general carpentry on items such as doors, floors, docks, overhead doors, roof downspouts, product racks, material handling equipment, etc.
  • Assist in installation of new equipment including conduit and wiring, building industrial equipment control panels, and startup testing.
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, installation, and modification of electrical and control systems (i.e. relays, controllers, switches and infrastructure, thermocouples, heaters and refrigeration units, drives, motors, contactors, timers, circuit protection devices, and valves.
  • Schedule equipment downtime for repairs and upgrades/installations while working with the manufacturing schedule to minimize downtime.
  • Work from drawings, P&IDs, blueprints, manuals and verbal/written instructions on installation, repair, replacement and/or maintenance of process equipment and electrical/control systems.
  • Update, modify, and generate electrical drawings as needed based on repair, upgrades, or new equipment design and implementation.
  • Initiate purchase orders for parts, equipment, and contracted services.
  • Complete and maintain required reports when maintenance tasks and repairs are concluded.
  • Adhere to storeroom business rules.
  • Deliver materials in need of repair to the storeroom.
  • Return excess materials to delivery zones or the storeroom.
  • Contribute to modification or replacement of equipment.
  • Assist with work planning.

Pay Transparency:
The expected pre-tax pay for this position is
$57,500.00 - $92,575.00
