Job description

  • Are you sick and tired of mean bosses?
  • Do you feel like no one cares about your growth as a young person?
  • Are you sad that your workplace doesn't have a team of kind people?

Take the Helm and Lead with Purpose At Mothership Coffee Roasters, we're looking for a Shift Lead who is both kind and works hard - someone who thrives on speed, leads with confidence, and motivates others to deliver results.

About Us

We are not just another coffee brand with an addictive ambiance, trendy lattes, and a thin veneer of culture and community. We ARE a culture-centered community that is focused on the people within and the people we serve. Kindness is at the top of our core values, leading to changes in our decisions, services, and operations. We are a socially equitable company focused on initiative, self-reliance, cooperation, integrity, and daily putting our best selves forward. At the core, we appreciate, support, treat each other with respect, and love each other.

About You

You are fun, engaging, and someone who doesn't wait for direction - you create it. You naturally see how community, people, and workflows can work better and take action to make that happen. You hold yourself to a high standard, thrive under pressure, and love clear expectations and measurable goals.

Your leadership style blends fun with engagement - you know to work hard, when to coach, and when to jump in. You believe that big smiles build strong teams, and strong teams create exceptional guest experiences.

The Role

As a Shift Lead, you're the driving force that ensures each day runs with precision, positivity, and purpose. You'll oversee operations, inspire your team, and make sure every shift runs efficiently - from the first espresso pull to the final closeout.

This role is a launchpad to becoming an Assistant Cafe Manager - ideal for someone who's ready to prove themselves, lead with vision, and grow into full management responsibility.

What You'll Do

  • Lead daily shift operations with confidence and composure.
  • Drive team accountability through clear expectations and follow-through.
  • Partner with your Cafe Manager to identify opportunities for improvement in workflow, efficiency, and service.
  • Support training, communication, and consistency across the team.
  • Maintain operational excellence: cleanliness, inventory accuracy, waste management, and equipment care.
  • Troubleshoot real-time challenges with decisiveness and professionalism.
  • Embody Mothership's values of Kindness, Integrity, and Growth, setting the tone for every shift.

What You Bring

  • Proven reliability and initiative
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to stay calm and productive in fast-paced environments.
  • Desire to lead, learn, and grow within a high-performing culture.
  • Prior cafe or hospitality experience preferred (barista experience a plus).
  • Available early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays (minimum 20 hours/week).

What We Offer

  • $14/hr + average $7/h- $12 per hour in tips (varies and not guaranteed).
  • Full-time benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision,
Ongoing leadership mentorship from Cafe Managers and Executives.
  • Career growth within a company scaling regionally and nationally.

You'll Thrive Here If You...

  • Love clear systems, measurable goals, and personal accountability.
  • Enjoy improving operations and leading by example.
  • See leadership as a craft and crave mentorship to master it.
  • Believe that kindness and excellence can coexist.
