Job description

Overview
National Debt Relief is seeking a highly skilled and strategic Staff Marketing Automation Developer who is passionate about building modern, scalable customer engagement experiences. In this role, you will leverage your deep expertise in marketing automation platforms, data integrations, and messaging architecture to design, develop, and optimize lifecycle communications across multiple channels. Working closely with senior technical leaders and cross-functional teams, you will help shape the future of our customer messaging ecosystem by modernizing platform capabilities, defining development standards, influencing migration strategy, and supporting the evolution of a more event-driven, customer-centric engagement model. The successful candidate will be a technical leader, innovative problem solver, and collaborative partner who thrives in a fast-paced environment while driving platform transformation, implementation excellence, and long-term scalability.
Responsibilities
  • Own day-to-day marketing automation platform operations, with a strong focus on Braze. Keep our messaging ecosystem healthy, reliable, performant, and scalable across email, SMS, push, and in-app channels.
  • Help shape our platform strategy. Contribute to the evaluation of our marketing automation tooling and, should we pursue or continue a migration, lead the technical strategy, architecture, data mapping, journey re-platforming, QA, and cutover planning with minimal disruption to live customer messaging.
  • Define technical and architectural standards for Braze and adjacent messaging systems, including data models, attributes, events, segments, Canvas design, API integrations, identity resolution, subscription management, personalization, and event-triggered messaging.
  • Build, optimize, and maintain campaigns and automations in Braze, including Canvas flows, audience segmentation, dynamic content, Liquid personalization, connected content, experimentation, and multi-channel orchestration.
  • Translate existing SFMC journeys, data extensions, automations, and personalization logic into Braze-native solutions where applicable, ensuring parity, scalability, and improved maintainability.
  • Partner with data, engineering, product, lifecycle, and marketing teams to design reliable event streams, customer attributes, audience syncs, and integration patterns between Braze, CRM, CDP, data warehouse, and internal systems.
  • Champion deliverability, compliance, and quality across messaging channels, including email authentication, list hygiene, preference management, rendering and QA, suppression logic, and adherence to CAN-SPAM, TCPA, GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable requirements.
  • Mentor and grow developers and marketing automation practitioners through code review, documentation, technical standards, pairing, and best-practice guidance.

Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • 8 years of experience in marketing automation, lifecycle marketing technology, or martech engineering, with demonstrated technical leadership as a tech lead, lead engineer, architect, or senior IC driving platform standards.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Braze, including Canvas, Campaigns, Segments, Currents, Catalogs, Liquid, Connected Content, subscription groups, custom attributes, custom events, and API-triggered messaging.
  • Proven experience building multi-channel customer journeys across email, SMS, push, and in-app or content cards, with a strong understanding of how to design scalable, event-driven messaging programs.
  • Experience migrating, re-platforming, or translating campaigns and journeys between marketing automation platforms, especially from Salesforce Marketing Cloud to Braze or a similar modern engagement platform.
  • Experience mentoring developers or marketing operations team members and setting technical standards for campaign development, QA, documentation, and release management.
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Hands-on Salesforce Marketing Cloud experience, including Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Email Studio, MobileConnect/MobilePush, Contact Builder, data extensions, AMPscript, and SQL.
    • Experience translating SFMC constructs such as journeys, automations, data extensions, synchronized data sources, AMPscript personalization, and SQL segmentation into Braze-native architecture.
    • Familiarity with CDPs such as Segment, mParticle, or Salesforce CDP, and data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift.
    • Experience with Braze Currents, Snowflake data sharing, reverse ETL tools, webhook integrations, or real-time event streaming.
    • Experience designing experimentation frameworks, holdout strategies, lifecycle measurement, and channel performance reporting within Braze or a connected analytics environment.
    • Experience with additional marketing automation platforms such as Iterable, Klaviyo, Adobe Campaign, or HubSpot, with the ability to translate concepts across tools.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong email development skills, including hand-coded responsive HTML/CSS, modular templates, dynamic personalization, rendering QA, and accessibility-aware email practices.
  • Solid grasp of API-driven integrations, SDK/event instrumentation concepts, webhook-based workflows, REST APIs, data flows, and how Braze connects to a broader data ecosystem such as CRM, CDP, data warehouse, and internal services.
  • Strong understanding of customer identity, user profile design, event taxonomy, attribute governance, audience segmentation, and lifecycle messaging architecture.
  • Strong understanding of email deliverability, authentication, preference management, consent, suppression logic, and messaging compliance.
