What does a market maker do?

A Market Maker is a financial professional or firm that provides liquidity to markets by continuously buying and selling securities. They facilitate trading by ensuring there are always buyers and sellers, reducing price volatility and improving market efficiency. Market Makers profit from the bid-ask spread—the difference between the buying and selling price. They often use advanced algorithms and risk management strategies to optimize their trading performance.

What does a typical day look like for a market maker?

A typical day for a Market Maker involves continuously quoting buy and sell prices on specific financial instruments, managing inventory levels, and monitoring market trends to capitalize on trading opportunities. You'll frequently engage with sales teams, traders, and sometimes clients to ensure liquidity and competitive pricing. Daily tasks include analyzing market data, adjusting strategies in response to market conditions, and managing risk. The environment is often fast-paced, requiring both quick decision-making and real-time collaboration with colleagues. This dynamic routine offers both challenges and the potential for rapid professional growth in the financial sector.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a market maker?

To thrive as a Market Maker, you need a deep understanding of financial markets, quantitative analysis, and risk management, often supported by a degree in finance, mathematics, or a related field. Proficiency with algorithmic trading platforms, market data feeds, and relevant certifications such as FINRA Series 7 or 57 is highly valued. Strong decision-making skills, attention to detail, and the ability to stay composed under pressure are crucial soft skills for this fast-paced environment. These competencies enable accurate pricing, efficient execution, and effective management of large transaction volumes, which are essential for success in this role.

Job description

Innovation & Delivery Transformation (I&DT) Team

The I&DT team exists to build what Deloitte's next decade demands. We don't optimize the past. We place deliberate bets on the technologies and markets that will define the future of industry, and we build the platforms, products, and commercial engines to win there. IntelligentOps is one of those bets: a decision intelligence product purpose-built for the complexity of large-scale operations, and a cornerstone of how Deloitte delivers durable, scaled value to operations-intensive clients.

The core focus of this role is IntelligentOps, Deloitte's decision intelligence and execution product for supply chain and manufacturing operations. IntelligentOps connects data, existing enterprise systems (ERP, MES, PLM, OT), and AI agents on a unified common core, enabling operations leaders to move faster, act with greater precision, and scale operational outcomes without adding systems or complexity.

Recruiting for this role ends on 08/15/2026.

Work you'll do

Deloitte Consulting is seeking a high-performing Vice President of Business Development to drive annual recurring revenue (ARR) growth for IntelligentOps across new and existing clients. This leader owns the sales strategy for the product, leading top-of-funnel origination, client deal shaping, and the commercial approach across product-led engagements spanning IntelligentOps: its core decision intelligence foundation and modular solution suite across asset performance, quality, planning, operations, and more.

Beyond individual deals, the role shapes the commercial strategy of the product itself. The successful candidate translates the General Manager's strategic direction into sequenced product intent, keeping market, commercial, and product priorities aligned rather than reactive, and owns price-market-fit as a strategic accountability, feeding signal from the market back to product and commercial leadership to refine pricing, packaging, and licensing as IntelligentOps scales.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership

  • Shape and sell annual recurring revenue deals across the IntelligentOps product suite, scaling from $1M to ~$12M over the next 5 years.
  • Translate the General Manager's strategic direction into sequenced product intent, prioritizing where the market and commercial agenda push next as IntelligentOps scales.
  • Own price-market-fit, exercised through direct market exposure including pursuits, deals, pricing exploration, and validation with real customers and shape product development, product marketing, and pricing accordingly.
  • Develop and execute account-based sales strategies aligned to priority intersections.
  • Provide strategic leadership across the deal lifecycle, driving origination and market awareness, shaping deals, and owning pricing strategy and packaging and partnering with pursuit leads who manage day-to-day qualification, negotiation, and close.

Market Expansion

  • Identify whitespace opportunities within existing Deloitte accounts.
  • Open new logo opportunities outside of the Deloitte core portfolio.
  • Position IntelligentOps as a strategic transformation enabler, not just a point solution.

Executive Engagement

  • Collaborate with Partners, Market Makers, Product Leads, and Pursuit Teams to align offerings with priority client opportunities and growth agendas.
  • Articulate ROI, value realization, and measurable business outcomes.

Sales Engineering & Solution Positioning

  • Own technical pre-sales strategy and customer-facing solution positioning, translating client requirements into solution capabilities and deployment approaches.
  • Lead demo strategy, readiness, and delivery, ensuring technical credibility with clients, leadership, and alliance partners.
  • Guide the integration story across ERP, SAP, MES, OT, IT, and AI ecosystems for executive and technical audiences.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with IntelligentOps leaders, industry account teams, and product teams.
  • Provide structured pipeline visibility and forecast accuracy.
  • Find, secure and direct talent internally or externally to produce compelling content like product demos, PowerPoint overviews, and other sales collateral.
  • Coach and support team members on effective client engagement and market maker interactions.
  • Increase Offering Portfolio, Industry, and market maker awareness of IntelligentOps product capabilities and differentiation through targeted enablement efforts.
  • Capture market insights, client feedback, willingness-to-pay signals, and market learnings and feed them into ongoing product, pricing, and offering improvement cycles.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 10+ years of professional experience in data or product selling, solution development, product commercialization, or related roles within enterprise software, analytics platforms, data provider, or management consulting.
  • Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent professional experience defined as an additional 4+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively across both business and technical audiences, including senior executives, Partners, product leaders, and engineers.
  • Proven communication and storytelling skills, including experience presenting to executive audiences and structuring complex ideas into clear, actionable narratives.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with experience managing multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated interest in developing deep expertise in IntelligentOps or prior experience working with similar data, analytics, software or AI platforms.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to contribute to both strategic planning and hands-on execution.
  • Ability to travel 20%, on average.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in Product Sales.
  • Deep familiarity with the enterprise technology stack, including ERP platforms (SAP, Oracle), MES systems, OT/IoT infrastructure, and operational planning tools, with the ability to speak credibly to both operations teams and enterprise technology leadership.
  • Demonstrated commercial experience with technology products or platforms, including product marketing, sales strategy, strategic pricing and packaging, price-market-fit validation, or commercialization of analytics, data, or AI-driven products.
  • Demonstrated track record of client leadership, selling, and deal shaping

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $163,400-$322,100.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
