The Role


The Market Director is a senior leadership role responsible for the overall performance, growth, and operational excellence of an assigned market. This role provides strategic direction and oversight across project delivery, financial performance, talent management, and client relationships, while partnering closely with sector leadership to execute firm-wide objectives. The Market Director is accountable for market-level profitability, team development, and sustainable growth, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality engineering services aligned with Stratus Team’s standards and values.


Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the assigned market, ensuring alignment with firm, sector, and operational goals
  • Own market-level financial performance, including revenue growth, profitability, backlog, utilization, and forecasting
  • Lead and develop a high-performing leadership team, including managers and senior technical leaders, fostering accountability, engagement, and succession planning
  • Oversee project delivery across the market, ensuring quality, consistency, risk management, and adherence to contractual obligations
  • Partner with Business Development and technical leaders to identify growth opportunities, support pursuit strategies, and expand client relationships within the market
  • Maintain executive-level client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor and escalation point for key accounts and complex issues
  • Collaborate with sector and shared services leadership (HR, Finance, Operations) to ensure consistent application of policies, processes, and performance standards
  • Drive resource planning and workforce strategies, including hiring, deployment, development, and retention of engineering talent
  • Establish and monitor market goals, KPIs, and performance metrics, implementing corrective actions as needed
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, professional standards, and internal risk management practices
  • Champion a culture of collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement across the market
  • Represent the firm internally and externally, reinforcing Stratus Team’s brand, values, and professional reputation

Qualifications


Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain licensure, as applicable
  • Minimum of 10–15 years of progressive experience in engineering or professional services, including leadership responsibility
  • Demonstrated experience managing teams, projects, and financial performance at a market or business unit level

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline
  • Prior experience leading a multi-disciplinary or geographically distributed team
  • Experience in a growth-oriented, multi-market professional services firm
