Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.  

  1. Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, and facilities. 

  1. Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving, using hand and power tools. 

  1. Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps. 

  1. Install ground rigging for yarding lines, attaching chokers to logs and to the lines. 

  1. Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials. 

  1. Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces by manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment. 

  1. Fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear. 

  1. Clean and dress machine surfaces and component parts. 

  1. Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use. 

  1. Perform visual inspections and test rigging before use to ensure safety and reliability. 

Required Education & Experience: 

  1. Industrial and/or marine rigging experience: 

  • 1st Class: 3-5 years** 

  • 2nd Class: 1-3 years 

  1. NCCCO or NCCER Preferred 

  1. Trained/Rigger Certified Preferred** 

Working Conditions: 

  1. Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc. 

  1. May work around fumes, odors, chemicals, and dust. 

  1. Traverse and negotiate gangways and scaffolding at varying heights. 

  1. Enter and work in Operator's cab and similar confined spaces. 

  1. Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved. 

  1. Traverse and negotiate uneven surfaces. 

  1. Must wear PPE when necessary.
