Job description

Job Summary/Company: Sparks Group has partnered with a local government organization to identify a GIS Map Project Assistant to support a high-impact infrastructure mapping initiative. This is a project-focused opportunity for a highly organized professional who enjoys coordinating projects, facilitating collaboration between technical and non-technical teams, and improving the end-user experience of GIS-based applications. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, enjoys gathering stakeholder feedback, and can help drive projects from planning through implementation. In addition to supporting the GIS mapping initiative, this position may also assist with administrative projects and departmental support as business needs arise.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and support a GIS infrastructure mapping project focused on improving the usability and functionality of mapping tools for both internal staff and public users.
  • Serve as the primary project coordinator, helping move an existing project from planning through implementation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across multiple departments to gather business requirements, identify user needs, and document feedback.
  • Facilitate meetings between business users, project stakeholders, and technical GIS and IT teams.
  • Translate operational needs into clear project requirements and actionable recommendations.
  • Support business process improvement initiatives by documenting workflows and identifying opportunities to enhance user experience.
  • Coordinate project schedules, meeting logistics, follow-up items, and project documentation.
  • Assist with user acceptance activities and support the rollout of new GIS mapping functionality.
  • Develop user guides, training materials, presentations, and documentation to support project implementation.
  • Coordinate training sessions and schedule meetings with internal stakeholders and end users.
  • Provide general administrative support including calendaring, presentation development, meeting coordination, and special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain project timelines and assist with tracking deliverables using Microsoft Office and other project management tools.

Qualifications/Background Profile:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience coordinating projects from planning through implementation.
  • Experience supporting business process improvement or operational improvement initiatives.
  • Exposure to GIS applications, with an emphasis on end-user functionality, usability, or interface improvements rather than GIS development.
  • Strong ability to gather business requirements and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with Smartsheet or other project tracking tools is a plus.
  • Previous experience supporting government, infrastructure, transportation, engineering, utilities, or public works projects is preferred but not required.
  • PMP certification is not required.
