Job description

Summary
The Quality & Safety Manager is responsible for leading the facilityโ€™s quality assurance, safety, and compliance programs. This role oversees the Quality & Safety Technicians and ensures all products meet customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and internal standards. The Manager drives continuous improvement initiatives, leads rootโ€‘cause investigations, maintains compliance systems (including ISO), and partners closely with production and leadership to strengthen quality and safety culture across the plant.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise, coach, and develop Quality & Safety Technicians.
  • Manage daily priorities, work assignments, and oversight of inspections, audits, and testing activities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and ensure technician training.
  • Champion a proactive, preventionโ€‘focused mindset in quality and safety.
Quality Assurance & Systems Ownership
  • Own the Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Review and approve testing protocols, sampling plans, and procedures.
  • Monitor production quality performance and present findings.
  • Ensure calibration and maintenance of testing equipment.
  • Partner with teams to drive corrective and preventive actions.
Nonconformance, CAPA & ISO Compliance
  • Oversee NCR process, review reports, and ensure timely closure.
  • Lead root cause investigations and verify CAPA effectiveness.
  • Maintain ISO documentation, audits, and certification requirements.
  • Train staff on ISO and documentation expectations.
  • Support customer audits and corrective actions.
Safety & Environmental Compliance
  • Oversee safety inspections, hazard assessments, and compliance.
  • Ensure OSHA compliance including LOTO, PPE, forklift safety, and chemical handling.
  • Lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Maintain safety records and environmental documentation.
  • Support training and emergency preparedness.
Customer & Regulatory Support
  • Act as primary contact for customer quality and compliance issues.
  • Review and approve regulatory documentation.
  • Participate in customer visits and audits.
  • Ensure timely and accurate customer responses.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Skills/Abilities
Required
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Quality, Engineering, Operations, Safety, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3โ€“5+ years in manufacturing quality or safety roles; corrugated industry preferred.
  • Experience leading teams or supervising staff.
  • Strong knowledge of QMS, NCR/CAPA, and quality tools.
  • Understanding of OSHA safety programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Preferred
  • ISO 9001 internal auditor certification.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience with GMA, ISTA, or packaging standards.
  • OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid, or similar certifications.

Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, working on a computer, and attending meetings.
  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, and perform inspections as needed throughout the facility.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Up to 25% travel for audits, training, and supplier/customer site visits.
