Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Amsted Automotive, Powder Metal Division, is looking for Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible to evaluate alternatives leading to the development, improvement, and implementation of manufacturing processes on new and existing products to achieve an optimum relationship between cost and quality. This position will work with other Engineers to support process engineering, industrial engineering, production standard costs, automation/tooling/equipment procurement, improving operating performance, identifying, and reducing waste, and troubleshooting in assigned areas of responsibility. It will also support the continuous improvement activities for the business, including the development and implementation of lean manufacturing concepts to systematically identify and eliminate waste.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Support the APQP team in the development of new part opportunities and Plant Engineering team in major process changes from concept through capable production.
• Evaluate and design systems for continuous improvement opportunities.
• Evaluate alternatives leading to the development and implementation of manufacturing processes on new and existing products to achieve an optimum relationship between cost and quality.
• Responsible for automation design and product/process flow including ergonomic considerations, lean manufacturing technology, mechanical design, electrical component usage & system logic, changeover ease, etc. to optimize the manufacturing process.
• Participate activities in scrap reduction, elimination of rework, material variances, labor variances, safety & ergonomic evaluations, and overall continuous improvement in assigned areas.
• Plan, justify, execute, and monitor capital programs as assigned. This includes budgeted capital projects, new equipment, automation, tooling, gauges, dies, fixtures, etc.
• Develop and maintain all drawings standards, work instructions, work center descriptions, etc. for engineering and operations.
• Establish and maintain a cooperative relationship with all support functions.
• Develop knowledge of P.M. tooling and gauging designs.
• Troubleshoot processes assigned. Coordinate mechanical/electrical repairs with the Maintenance Department as needed.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering, or relevant experience, required.
• At least 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience in a manufacturing environment required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and abstract reasoning skills.
• CNC Machining experience and Tooling Knowledge.
• Familiar with GD&T and its application.
• Knowledge of automation and part handling designs, and electrical interface systems.
• Project Management & Multitasking skills with ability to meet timelines and deadlines with budget and time constraints.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and ability to work with all levels of associates.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Open minded and quickly adaptable to change.
• Ability to facilitate, support, and implement change within the organization.
• Possesses working knowledge of CAD (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) and CAM software (Mastercam/Surfcam/Esprit) with the ability to apply those skills.
• Knowledge of Fanuc based controls.
