POSITION SUMMARY:
The machine operator position encompasses the operation of all coffee packing equipment to ensure quality and conformity of filled and packaged products. Duties must be performed in ways that maximize production efficiency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
  • Responsible for general repair, maintenance and cleaning of machinery as needed.
  • Inputs package quality testing results into Quality Windows program.
  • Oversees finished packaged items from machine and separates rejected items.
  • Manages machine components and settings according to product size.
  • Performs periodic inspection on machinery and mechanical equipment for accuracy of UPC code printing and label registration.
  • Optimizes run-time during periods of shift rotation.
  • Clears jams and reports malfunctions for maintenance.
  • Responsible for product size change over and tracking product flow.
  • Adjusts machine controls for proper fill during production runs.
  • Actively communicates with maintenance all machine problems that exceed an operator’s ability to fix.
  • Cooperates with maintenance in all mechanical changes, PLC updates, and equipment installation.
  • Incorporates rework into the finished product at established quality specifications as required.
  • Fulfills quality functions and conforms to all quality control regulations and procedures.
  • Completes record keeping and other paperwork as required.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping around the production area.
  • Upholds and provides safe, high-quality, consistent products, and superior services that anticipate, meet or exceed the requirements of our customers.
  • Complies with General Safety Communication Program.
  • Performs other duties/tasks as assigned on an as needed basis.
SKILL SET/ EXPERIENCE:
  • Maintains a high-quality product.
  • Understands how to read package quality specifications (die-lines, temperatures, measurements, bag height etc.)
  • Basic experience with hand tools.
  • Working knowledge of computer basics and experience with data entry.
  • Manufacturing experienced desired.
  • Observes physical changeover of product on the machine.
  • Has ability to trouble shoot minor problems on packaging machines.
  • Has a novice understanding of centerline machine settings adjustments (time, pressure, temperature).
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Basic ability to read, write, calculate simple math, and withstand moderate amounts of stress.
  • High degree of organizational skills required to maintain uninterrupted machine operation.
  • Good analytical skills needed to plan and implement various machine operation functions.
  • Ability to address complex problems and propose viable solutions.
  • To direct and train the case packer and end-line to perform essential job functions, at the behest of the supervisor or lead.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills required.
WORK ENVIROMENT AND EQUIPMENT:
  • Personal protection equipment and other Good Manufacturing Practices are mandatory.
  • Operational knowledge of various coffee packing machines, printers, and metric tooling.
  • This position is inside a warehouse roasting facility that requires constant standing on concrete floors, exposed to loud equipment noise and subject to coffee dust and flavoring smells.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
WORK HABITS:
  • Regular attendance and promptness are a must for this job.
  • This job requires a high degree of teamwork.
  • Assists new training of employees as directed.
