Summary
 
This role works collaboratively to produce high-quality components used in world-class microscopes operated by leading scientists. The Team Lead of Manufacturing is responsible for leading a team of hourly colleagues in a test and assembly manufacturing environment, overseeing departmental goals related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, Productivity, and Employee Development. The position also includes maintaining and repairing specialized equipment to established parameters and specifications and collaborating with the entire manufacturing team.
 
Responsibilities
  • Staffing: time-card administration, OT management, PTO, and attendance tracking
  • Employee development: Individual Development Plans, coaching, and training
  • Performance management: updates weekly, daily/hourly production metrics, and facilitates regular team meetings
  • Facilitating team participation
  • Resolving production problems
  • Conducting performance evaluations
  • Giving and receiving employee feedback
  • Providing written end-of-shift performance updates to Production Supervisor
  • Overseeing continuous improvement (PPI) initiatives and activities
  • Leading, participating in, and supporting meetings; monitoring project progress; reporting key metrics
  • Analyzing procedures and production methods to improve quality, cost, and productivity
  • Conducting regular audits/GEMBA walks and implementing identified improvements
  • Defining and driving safety initiatives
  • Overseeing and driving 6S programs in areas of ownership
  • Serving as first line of response for equipment failure
  • Identifying and solving issues with circuit boards, cabling, and vacuum pumps
  • Conducting routine preventive maintenance on sophisticated electronics
  • Monitoring equipment uptime using KPIs and planning/scheduling equipment repairs
  • Installing and qualifying new Scanning Electron Microscope capital test equipment as needed
Required Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience with at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • 2+ years of validated experience operating Scanning Electron Microscopes and repairing mechanical/electrical complex high-tech equipment.
  • 2+ years of experience operating a Scanning Electron Microscope, troubleshooting, and electronic equipment repair OR a combination of education and experience demonstrating required skills
  • Minimum 2-year associate degree in a technical field (Electronic Engineering Technology, Microelectronics, Mechatronics)
  • Military technical training in lieu of a technical degree may be considered
  • Experience with low-volume, highly complex manufacturing processes
  • Experience in Electronics and proficiency in Ultra High Vacuum
  • Experience troubleshooting Scanning Electron Microscopes down to component level
  • Experience in lean manufacturing, 6S, and continuous improvement
  • Experience with Windows-based and MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access)
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead a team
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Ability to use multimeters, oscilloscopes, soldering irons, etc.
  • Knowledge of Scanning Electron Microscopes, data acquisition, SEM imaging and measurements
  • Knowledge of Electronics Manufacturing, Equipment Repair, High Voltage, Ultra High Vacuum
  • Ability to read work instructions and schematic drawings and troubleshoot tools down to component and software level
  • Ability to analyze and address problems independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to support projects, perform training, and work effectively as part of cohesive teams
  • Self-motivated, strong interpersonal skills, team building, coaching, mentoring, conflict resolution
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Comfortable operating in a clean room environment using appropriate PPE
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to partner with colleagues of differing backgrounds
