Description:

Boater’s World Manufacturing Group is seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineering Technician to support our boat manufacturing operation in Chocowinity, North Carolina.


The Manufacturing Engineering Technician works directly with Engineering and Production to help improve manufacturing processes, troubleshoot production issues, support tooling and equipment, maintain accurate production documentation, and assist with the introduction of new products and process improvements.


This position is ideal for someone who combines strong mechanical and technical skills with hands-on manufacturing experience. The Manufacturing Engineering Technician will spend significant time on the production floor working directly with engineers, supervisors, technicians, and production employees to identify problems and help implement practical solutions.


Previous boat manufacturing experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with transferable experience in manufacturing engineering support, mechanical systems, tooling, industrial maintenance, automotive, RV, composites, or other durable-goods manufacturing environments are encouraged to apply.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manufacturing & Engineering Support

  •  Provide hands-on technical support to Engineering and Production throughout the manufacturing facility
  •  Assist engineers with the development, implementation, and improvement of manufacturing processes
  •  Troubleshoot production, tooling, equipment, assembly, and process-related issues
  •  Work directly with production employees and supervisors to identify the root cause of manufacturing problems
  •  Assist with implementing corrective actions and process improvements
  •  Support manufacturing processes involving assembly, fiberglass/composites, mechanical systems, tooling, fixtures, and related production operations
  •  Help evaluate production methods for safety, quality, efficiency, consistency, and ease of assembly
  •  Assist with production trials, testing, and validation of process changes
  •  Support Engineering with technical projects and day-to-day manufacturing needs
  •  Provide hands-on assistance during new product introductions and production changes

Tooling, Fixtures & Equipment

  •  Assist with the design, fabrication, modification, installation, and maintenance of production tooling and fixtures
  •  Build or modify jigs, templates, fixtures, and other production aids as directed
  •  Troubleshoot tooling and equipment problems that affect production
  •  Assist with equipment installation, setup, testing, and validation
  •  Perform measurements and verify tooling, fixtures, and components against specifications
  •  Coordinate with Maintenance, Tooling, Engineering, and Production when equipment or tooling concerns arise
  •  Identify opportunities to improve ergonomics, workflow, quality, and production efficiency

Process Improvement & Troubleshooting

  •  Observe manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to reduce waste, rework, downtime, and production delays
  •  Assist with root-cause analysis of production and quality issues
  •  Help develop and implement corrective and preventive actions
  •  Support continuous-improvement projects throughout the manufacturing operation
  •  Collect production information and measurements to support engineering analysis
  •  Help evaluate manufacturing cycle times, workflow, material movement, and process consistency
  •  Monitor implemented changes and provide feedback regarding results
  •  Work with Quality and Production to address recurring manufacturing defects or process concerns

Technical Documentation

  •  Assist with creating and updating work instructions, process documentation, drawings, specifications, and other manufacturing records
  •  Maintain accurate documentation of manufacturing processes and engineering changes
  •  Assist with bills of material, routings, part information, and other production data as assigned
  •  Document process changes, equipment settings, measurements, and technical findings
  •  Help ensure current manufacturing instructions and specifications are available to production employees
  •  Assist with communicating engineering and process changes to affected production teams

Quality & Production Support

  •  Work with Quality, Engineering, and Production to investigate manufacturing defects and nonconforming products
  •  Assist with inspections, measurements, testing, and validation as required
  •  Help determine whether concerns are related to materials, tooling, equipment, processes, or assembly methods
  •  Support corrective actions and verify that process changes are effective
  •  Help ensure manufacturing processes consistently meet established quality requirements
  •  Support production teams during troubleshooting while minimizing unnecessary downtime
Requirements:
  •  Previous hands-on experience in manufacturing, engineering support, tooling, mechanical systems, industrial maintenance, production, or a related technical environment
  •  Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting ability
  •  Experience safely using hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and basic production equipment
  •  Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, measurements, specifications, and work instructions
  •  Ability to identify problems, investigate potential causes, and assist with implementing practical solutions
  •  Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  •  Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  •  Strong written and verbal communication skills
  •  Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, supervisors, technicians, and production employees
  •  Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  •  Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a cross-functional team
  •  Ability to work full-time on-site in Chocowinity, North Carolina

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Associate degree, technical diploma, or related coursework in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field
  •  Previous Manufacturing Engineering Technician, Engineering Technician, Process Technician, or similar experience
  •  Boat or marine manufacturing experience
  •  Experience in fiberglass, composites, assembly, tooling, mechanical systems, or durable-goods manufacturing
  •  Experience designing, building, or modifying jigs, fixtures, templates, or production tooling
  •  Experience with CAD drawings or engineering documentation
  •  Experience with bills of material and manufacturing routings
  •  Experience with ERP or manufacturing systems
  •  Experience with root-cause analysis and continuous-improvement activities
  •  Automotive, RV, aerospace, powersports, or other manufacturing experience

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  •  Regular exposure to manufacturing noise, dust, fiberglass/composite materials, chemicals, odors, tools, equipment, and varying temperatures
  •  Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  •  Ability to bend, kneel, reach, climb, and work in and around boats, tooling, and production equipment
  •  Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment
  •  Ability to lift, carry, position, and move materials, tools, and equipment as required by the position
  •  Must wear required PPE and follow all facility safety procedures
