Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
New Product Development | Fort Wayne, Indiana

Are you a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys developing innovative products, solving complex engineering challenges, and seeing your designs move from concept to production? Our client is seeking a Sr. Design Engineer to join their growing New Product Development team in Elkhart, Indiana.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex mechanical assemblies within a fast-paced engineering environment where your designs will have direct impact on product performance, manufacturability, and overall business success. The ideal candidate will bring strong SolidWorks design experience, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams to drive projects to successful launch.

OVERVIEW

Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, this position will play a key role in the design, development, validation, and launch of innovative engineered products within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on mechanical design engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, working closely with manufacturing and suppliers, and driving products from concept through production readiness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and develop component models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings utilizing SolidWorks
• Create and manage complete master assemblies for new product development programs
• Utilize SolidWorks Simulation / FEA tools to analyze and optimize product designs
• Participate in DFMEA activities and apply results to improve product reliability and performance
• Collaborate with internal manufacturing teams and external suppliers to ensure design manufacturability and production readiness
• Conduct drawing reviews with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams
• Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to optimize fit, function, and assembly performance
• Support product testing and validation activities while incorporating findings into design improvements
• Lead and organize design reviews to ensure cross-functional alignment throughout the development process
• Independently drive component and assembly designs through development, validation, and release phases
• Support project timing, cost targets, and engineering deliverables to ensure successful product launches

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
• 7 - 10 years (+) of relevant product design or mechanical engineering experience
• Strong proficiency with SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and detailed drawings
• Ability to work effectively within a team-oriented engineering environment
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Ability to take ownership of projects and drive results independently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience designing complex mechanical assemblies
• Hydraulic systems or hydraulic component experience preferred
• Experience utilizing SolidWorks FEA / Simulation tools
• Background supporting products from concept through production launch
