Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Design a wheelchair accessible vehicle from initial concept, design, prototype builds, testing, validation, through to final manufacturing in-house production line. Must be able to diagnose and troubleshoot issues as they arise on the manufacturing plant floor in a positive and timely manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Ability to design new products/vehicles and make improvements to existing products using computer aided design (CAD) under the guidance of Directors and Managers.
• Ability to transform initial rough product ideas/designs into working engineering CAD models and drawings.
• Be able to conduct reviews of designs with production, dealers, and suppliers to gain final approval.
• Drive continual improvements in cost, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction through planning and designing methods to improve production processes.
• Be able to analyze data, review drawings, create plans to ensure quality and project feasibility.
• Support Lean manufacturing to eliminate waste from processes and to reduce variability in designs.
• Develop manufacturing work instructions, procedures, production flow.
• Ability to perform root cause analysis using Lean Manufacturing and/or statistical methodologies.
• Responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes and equipment (from pilot build to fully operational production line) to achieve the production goals of the organization.
• 2D drawings and Work Instructions are our output.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• BS Degree in Engineering.
• 7 Years minimum experience in companies that manufacture their own product on-site.
• 7 Years minimum experience in CAD, 3 years' experience in SolidWorks
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to multi-task and function in a factory environment.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Motivated, self-starter with the ability to learn quickly.
• Ability to network with associates in other departments to find needed information.
• Willingness to consider change and to adapt.
• Quick reaction to business opportunities.
• Automotive experience preferred.
• Sheet Metal Forming/Stamping Dies a plus.
• Surfacing or plastic design a plus but not required.
• Tool and fixture design a plus but not required.
• SolidWorks PDM vault workflow preferred.
• Knowledge of Lean practices.
• Capable of tolerance stacks and analysis.
• Knowledgeable in common metal fabrication and machining processes.
• Hands on ability to take designs and create physical prototypes.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be temporarily exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts when needed on the production floor. The noise level in the work environment is mild and conducive to normal office communication levels.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, and use office equipment such as fax, computer, mouse, keyboard, phone, copier.
