Laborer-Day Shift


Duties and Responsibilities:
*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
Assist welders, fitters, and mechanics with railcar and fabrication shop tasks.
Perform groundwork including coupling/uncoupling cars, and properly aligning switches.
Complete pre- start up switch engine inspection and recognize problems and complete daily
checklist.
Safely operate the switch engine including start-up/shut down.
Perform basic switch engine maintenance (e.g., changing brake shoes, adjusting air brake
piston travel).
Adhere to safety rules of switching outside and inside the shop.
Assist with track maintenance (driving spikes, lubing switches, tighten joint bars, and
recognize needed track maintenance).
Maintain an organized storage yard and safe work environment.
Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and hand tools safely.
Perform general shop cleaning, material handling, and basic fabrication support (cutting,
grinding, drilling, prepping).
Handle scrap, waste, and recyclable materials per company safety and environmental
guidelines.
Work overtime as the need arises.
Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its
essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
