JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut is seeking an enthusiastic individual to fill a full-time position supporting University IT's digital communications platforms. This position serves as the primary administrator for the University's digital signage environment and is responsible for planning, designing, publishing, and maintaining digital signage content across campus. The position also supports the design, development, and maintenance of university websites, including WordPress content management, accessibility compliance, and digital design.
The selected candidate will work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating with ITS staff and University departments to deliver engaging, accessible, and effective digital communications that align with university branding and technology standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Computer Support Technician 1
  • Administer and support the University's digital signage platform(s).
  • Design, schedule, publish, and maintain digital signage content.
  • Collaborate with IT partners to develop engaging digital communications.
  • Create graphics and visual assets for digital signage and websites.
  • Assist with the design, maintenance, and enhancement of university websites.
  • Develop and modify HTML and CSS to support web initiatives.
  • Maintain WordPress content and assist departments with web publishing.
  • Troubleshoot signage hardware, software, and display systems.
  • Ensure digital content complies with university branding and WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Participate in planning meetings and provide project status updates.
  • Maintain technical documentation and user instructions.
  • Maintain technical expertise through professional development.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Additional duties for Computer Support Technician 2
  • Serve as the primary technical administrator for enterprise digital signage systems.
  • Lead digital signage and web projects from planning through implementation.
  • Develop standards, governance, documentation, and workflows for digital communications.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to campus departments.
  • Research and recommend new technologies and communication solutions.
  • Coordinate larger deployments, upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Mentor junior staff when appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications - Computer Support Technician 1
  1. Associate's degree and four years of related experience; OR Bachelor's degree and two years of related experience; OR six years of related experience.
  2. Experience supporting digital communications, websites, or IT services.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of basic HTML and CSS.
  4. Demonstrated written communication skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

Additional Minimum Qualifications - Computer Support Technician 2
  1. Associate's degree and six years of related experience; OR Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience; OR eight years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience administering digital signage or enterprise web platforms.
  3. Experience with WordPress or similar content management systems.
  4. Experience leading technical projects.
  5. Demonstrated troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  6. Experience developing documentation and standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Qualifications - Computer Support Technician 1
  1. Experience with WordPress.
  2. Experience with BrightSign, Carousel, Rise Vision, or similar digital signage platforms.
  3. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent.
  4. Demonstrated familiarity with WCAG accessibility standards.
  5. Experience creating digital communications for higher education or large organizations.

Additional Preferred Qualifications - Computer Support Technician 2
  1. Experience with enterprise administration of digital signage platforms.
  2. Experience with Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar professional design software.
  3. Experience implementing accessible web experiences.
  4. Front-end development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  5. Experience developing documentation, standards, and governance.
  6. Experience mentoring staff or leading cross-functional technical projects.
  7. Experience supporting higher education, government, or similarly complex organizations.
