Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Web Specialist is charged with supporting the production and implementation of content for the web to advance Belmont University’s brand, spread its mission, support its vision and encourage enrollment/investment. The position works collaboratively with University Marketing & Communications colleagues and partners across campus to develop and maintain websites, email communications, online ads and other digital content. Uses analytics and usability testing to make improvements to existing online content and increase online search traffic through search engine optimization. This position works with the members of the Digital Media Team to plan and create engaging, impactful, high-quality digital content through a variety of platforms. In collaboration with University marketing strategy, the Web Specialist will stay abreast of how web content is being consumed and find ways to optimize its findability and share ability across multiple online channels. The Web Specialist will be responsible for delivering web content that is compliant with accessibility and privacy laws.

  • Responsible for supporting the development of web content that effectively and creatively supports the University’s brand and marketing objectives,including, but not limited to, building websites; responsive HTML e-mails; static/animated online ads; interactive media guides; WordPress sites; conversion of static designs to HTML; among others.
  • Build websites from start to finish, including working with partners across campus to evaluate content strategy, develop information architecture, gather content and build websites within the University CMS and other platforms that is in consonance with the University’s brand, content strategy and goals.
  • Ensure that existing content on the University website is up-to-date and meets University marketing objectivesthrough close collaboration with other members of the University marketing and communications team, including but not limited to website copy, photography, video and graphics.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of University website governance policiesthrough the training of new/existing users and management of the University CMS, Wordpress Multisite and CRM systems.
  • Utilize various measurement and analytics toolsto ensure that existing online content is meeting the University’s marketing objectives, as well as evaluating new tools that are not currently in use.
  • Evaluate organic search health on an ongoing basisto improve content to maximize search engine optimization including performing regular SEO audits of important university landing pages.
  • Maintain consecutive ongoing projects, communicating consistently with supervisors and project managers and delivering edits as assigned by assigned deadlines and within budget
  • Draft or suggest web copy to fill content gaps, and review and edit copy submitted by campus partners for university style and brand consistency.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with utilizing analytics tools including, but not limited to, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Google Data Studio to measure success.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and XD.
  • Understanding of storytelling and content strategy for the web.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and privacy laws and how they relate to website design
  • Enthusiasm and ability to produce high quality content on deadline in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with concurrent assignments. Ability to respond to high-pressure situations and to thrive in an environment of hard work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required, including research, fact-checking, and editing. Exceptional attention to detail, professional demeanor, time management, customer service and the ability to work collaboratively with the highest standards of confidentiality, discretion, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to excel independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Familiarity with higher education is a plus.
Required Education

A Bachelor’s degree in web design, marketing, communications or related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

Required Experience

At least two (2) years of relevant professional experience. Portfolio of previous work is required.
