Job Summary: The Tower Technician III serves as the senior-level field technician responsible for leading tower crews in the installation, maintenance, and repair of wireless communication towers and related infrastructure.  This role requires advanced technical knowledge, strong leadership, and the ability to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to quality standards.  This position plays a key role in training team members, coordinating site activities, and ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements. 
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
•Serve as the lead technician on site, directing daily crew operations, and ensuring adherence to scope, and safety and quality standards 
•Climb and perform work on communication towers and elevated structures up to 500 feet
•Perform and oversee the installation, alignment, and troubleshooting of antennas, radios, hybrid cables, connectors, and mounts
•Interpret and ensure execution of construction drawings, site plans, and RF specifications
•Perform advanced testing and troubleshooting, including sweep testing, PIM testing, and fiber/connector inspections
•Conduct quality assurance checks and ensure all work is completed according to customer and Company standards
•Maintain and inspect rigging, hoisting, and climbing equipment to ensure proper use and safety
•Model safe behavior on-site and ensure crew participation in all safety protocols, meetings, and briefings 
•Complete required documentation accurately, including daily reports, quality checklists, and site photos
•Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and vehicles
•Maintain a clean and organized job site, ensuring all tools, materials, and waste are properly handled and disposed of 
•Assist the foreman in training, mentoring, and supporting less experienced team members in both technical skills and safety practices 
•Travel regularly to job sites, which may include overnight stays 
•Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
 
Education: High school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.), or related trade school education
 
Experience: 
•Three to five years of progressive experience in wireless tower construction, maintenance, or field services 
•Experience overseeing crews and supporting field operations
•Proven ability to complete complex tower work independently and guide others 
•Competent Climber/Rescue Certification from an accredited institution 
•Must have or obtain and maintain OSHA 30 Construction Training Card 
•Must have or obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR Certification
•Must have or obtain and maintain Competent Rigging and Hoisting Certification 
•Other relevant certifications may be required per the scope of work being performed (i.e. NWSA Certification, Hazcom Certification, Blood Born Pathogen Certification, RF Safety Certification etc.) 
 
Technical Skills:
•Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency 
•Advanced knowledge of wireless communication infrastructure and equipment 
•Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and RF engineering documents 
•Skilled in sweep, fiber, and PIM testing, troubleshooting, and system optimization 
•Proficient in the use of hand and power tools 
•Competence with GPS, test equipment, and site audit tools
 
Soft Skills:
•Strong leadership and decision-making skills 
•Follows safety protocols and installation procedures with accuracy and care, and requires others to do the same

Physical Requirements: 
•Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
•Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
•Ability to climb vertically and pull one’s own body weight, along with necessary tools and equipment, up to 500 feet, and perform work at heights on towers and other elevated structures for extended periods
•Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds regularly 
•Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and grasp materials and tools with both hands
•Ability to work long hours in outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, wind, or snow 
•Ability to stand, walk, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods of time 
•Ability to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE), including fall protection harness, hard hat, safety glasses, and gloves 
•Ability to climb and work at heights while wearing a safety harness, maintaining a total combined weight (which includes body weight, clothing, equipment, and tools) between 130 pounds and 310 pounds in accordance with industry fall protection standards
•Must be physically and mentally fit to perform tower rescues and participate in safety drills and training exercises 
•Comfortable working in confined spaces and at varying elevations 
•Ability to work long and unpredictable hours 
•Ability to travel away from home up to 75% of the time, including weekends and extended travel. Travel includes local site travel or national travel depending on business needs.
