Job description

As a Staff Project Engineer you will provide technical expertise and manages capital projects from design, development, and execution in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Develop, design, perform cost estimation and prepare/submit Authorization for Expenditures (AFE) and Decision Review Board (DRB) documents for capital and expense projects.
  • Understand and implement the budget, appropriations and project control processes for capital workload.
  • Perform the final review and approval of designs, budgets, project plans, schedules, resources, QA/QC procedures and project reports.
  • Recruit and oversee contract project managers.
  • Track cost and schedule performance of projects relative to the capital budget.
  • Manage the capital project program spend while project schedule and performance are not compromised.
  • Prepare specifications and procure materials and equipment for a timely and efficient execution of projects.
  • Provide technical support to all refinery departments that will result in safe, efficient and cost effective installations.
  • Oversee and coordinate contract personnel for engineering, design and installation of capital, expense and maintenance projects.
  • Perform cost tracking and status reporting for assigned projects.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously within a managed budget and execution schedule.
  • Provide support to Refinery during planned and unplanned outages, including availability to respond to and support critical business needs during off-hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Follow all safety rules and guidelines as established by the Refinery.

This position is salaried exempt status, which means you are not eligible for overtime pay.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Ardmore Refinery, required.
  • Bachelor's or higher level degree - in Engineering required.
  • 8 years of experience in engineering and project management required, 
  • 3 years exposure in a refinery/petrochemical-operating environment required.
  • Bachelor's or higher level degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
