Job Summary and Qualifications

The Free-standing ED (FSED) Float tech is required to routinely work at all Trident Health System free-standing ED Imaging departments to meet the specific needs of these departments. The FSED Imaging Float tech must perform all duties relating to the specific primary and post primary imaging modalities in which they are working (both RAD and CT). The technologist must competently operate all diagnostic RAD and CT equipment ton include preparing the rooms with the necessary equipment and supplies for the imaging exam. The technologist is responsible for assisting in the primary mission of the FSED Imaging department by ensuring that proper diagnostic information is provided through the production of high-quality scans, protocol adherence, critical thinking, excellent patient care, and obtaining clinically relevant history. Other duties include, but are not limited to clerical, scheduling, transportation, ordering supplies, inventory, cleaning, and anything deemed necessary by the Medical Imaging Management Team. The technologist must follow all Radiation Protection policies and procedures including ALARA, as low as reasonably achievable for patients, physicians, and personnel. Technologist must follow all regulatory compliance for DHEC, Joint Commission, ACR and any regulatory agency governing radiation safety. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.    

Position Requirements: 


  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: ARRT. SCRQSA required, BLS. CT registry required within 6 months of departmental orientation completion date, at which point SCRQSA ARRT will be obtained.  
  • Education: Graduate of an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology certified by ARRT  
  • Experience: 1+ years Medical Imaging strongly preferred. Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities. Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patient/internal and external customer. 
  • Special qualifications: Employee must be competent to work at all FSED Imaging departments within Trident Health System.
