Job description

About VML Health:

VML HEALTH is a global healthcare agency that partners with healthcare clients across a broad definition of health, from high science to wellness and everything in between. It operates fluidly within the VML agency, as a core group of health specialists (a 'vertical') that has the benefit of autonomy in management, but with support of non-health expertise.

At the heart of health is the story of life - all the highs and lows, ambitions, and possibilities. But facing a health challenge can suddenly pull people away from these stories, knocking them off course.

Our purpose is to bridge this gap, bringing people closer to life and all its meaning. We gain a deeper understanding of Healthcare Professionals' and patients' needs, behaviors and lived experiences through what we call 'radical empathy'.

VML Health creates connected brands that get to the heart, bringing people closer to the lives they want to live.  Get to the heart. Connect for life.

International Meetings and Science (IMsci), a division of VML Health, works with companies to build world-class healthcare and pharmaceutical brands among medical professionals and consumers, with a transmedia storytelling approach that covers medical education strategies.

What we're looking for:

We're looking for a dynamic and highly experienced Vice President, Medical Director to lead and inspire our scientific teams. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with a strong scientific background, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for medical education and communication. We value strategic thinkers who can champion scientific integrity, build strong client relationships, and foster a positive and inclusive team environment. A deep understanding of therapeutic markets and the ability to translate complex scientific information into compelling content are crucial for this role.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and motivate multiple science teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Mentor and coach team members, providing opportunities for growth and development.
  • Share best practices and innovative ideas across account teams.
  • Collaborate with account services to drive strategic direction and resolve departmental conflicts.
  • Keep management informed of client activities, issues, and opportunities.
  • Ensure teams adhere to internal processes and operate efficiently and fiscally responsibly.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with editorial teams, ensuring timely delivery of materials.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts, attracting top talent to VML Health.
  • Champion company culture and values, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Support fellow senior managers and contribute to a collaborative leadership team.
  • Structure, plan, resource, and lead new business pitches.
  • Network and collaborate with VML Health and WPP.
  • Maintain a strong network of external relationships in the medical education and pharmaceutical sectors.
  • Champion brands by maximizing scientific data to meet strategic goals and long-term vision.
  • Serve as the scientific point of contact, translating complex science into strategic content.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of therapeutic markets and stay abreast of industry trends.
  • Delegate, supervise, and review scientific content, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
  • Write, edit, and rewrite medical content as needed.
  • Develop and participate in strategic planning, ensuring alignment between issues, strategies, and programming.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs).
  • Serve as a key client contact, building strong relationships and providing scientific guidance.
  • Develop and maintain harmonious relationships with client teams at all levels.
  • Share timely market insights and provide proactive recommendations to clients.
  • Ensure client satisfaction and identify solutions to strengthen relationships.
  • Resolve client conflicts quickly and efficiently.
  • Participate in the development of breakthrough creative and innovative programs.
  • Ensure high-quality agency output, rejecting materials that don't meet standards.
  • Secure and manage external scientific resources as needed.

Who You Are

  • A proven leader with a passion for medical education and communication.
  • A strategic thinker with strong scientific acumen and marketing savvy.
  • An excellent communicator with effective written and oral communication skills.
  • A collaborative team player who fosters a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • A highly organized individual with exceptional attention to detail and time management skills.
  • A proactive problem-solver who exercises sound judgment.

What You'll Need

  • Advanced degree in biomedical sciences (MD, PhD).
  • 5-7+ years of experience in a medical communications agency.
  • Experience in multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Proven experience managing multiple teams and client accounts.
  • A track record of successful new business pitches.
  • Advanced skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, internet search, and PubMed.

What We Offer:

  • Passionate, driven people | We champion a culture of people that do extraordinary work.
  • Consciously cultivated culture | We aim to embody the behaviors to build an inclusive community that is in it together, bringing both positivity and active listening into the workplace as we simultaneously strive to empower creative bravery.
  • Competitive benefits | What we offer full-time hires ranges from the full spectrum of group health coverage options (medical, dental, vision) to a generous 401k match (100% dollar-for-dollar match, up to 5% of salary contribution), and a variety of paid time off offerings that reflect our investment in all aspects of your overall life balance and wellness.
