Job description

The Richmond Commonwealths Attorneys Office is accepting resumes for a Paralegal.


Paralegal Circuit CourtSalary Range: $56,891 - $89,667

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares/updates/maintains all assigned dockets, to include creating files, updating files, issuing subpoenas, providing body worn camera footage to defense counsel, drafting discovery and related motions, and running traffic/criminal records on required cases.
  • Manages and correctly updates internal case management systems after each docket.
  • Transfers information from written/paper formats into computer database system.
  • Resolves conflicting or incomplete data by consulting various sources.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
  • - Maintains an organized filing system for closed files.
  • Completes additional tasks as needed.

 Qualifications / Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred; possession of a paralegal certificate from an accredited paralegal program or equivalent work experience required. 
  • Five years of experience as a paralegal in the criminal law area preferred. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Familiarity with legal terminology
  • Fast and accurate typing skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of criminal court procedures
  • Adeptness using various MS Office programs
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate case management software program
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to focus and perform accurately through interruptions
  • Discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential information

Top candidates must have keen attention to detail, diligent work ethic, and an ability to learn quickly. The ability to work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and working knowledge of court procedures and legal terminology is essential.
