EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent work experience required. College degree in Hospitality Management, Recreation Management, Sports Management, or a related field preferred. Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English at a level sufficient to communicate effectively with guests and colleagues.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Previous hospitality, recreation, aquatics, youth programming, or club experience preferred. Prior leadership or supervisory experience is beneficial.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Working knowledge of hospitality, recreation, pool and beach operations, youth programming, and luxury guest service.
JOB SUMMARY: The Manager-in-Training (MIT) - Surf Club Operations is an 18-month rotational leadership development program designed to provide immersive, hands-on experience throughout the Surf Club. Rotations will include Youth Programs, Recreation, and Pool & Beach Operations.
The program focuses on developing future leaders with a comprehensive understanding of luxury club operations, Forbes Travel Guide standards, safety and risk management, activity programming, team leadership, and exceptional member and guest service. The MIT will work alongside departmental leaders to learn daily operations, assist with colleague training and scheduling, support recreational programming, and help ensure a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for members and guests of all ages.
A strong leadership presence, professionalism, adaptability, and a willingness to remain actively involved in daily operations are essential for success in this role.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Must be able to work extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, and direct sunlight. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds. Must be comfortable working around pools, beaches, children, and recreational activities. A valid driver's license is required.
DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
  • Work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Arrive at work on time and in the proper uniform or professional attire.
  • Maintain a polished, professional appearance in accordance with Club standards.
  • Attend all required training sessions, safety courses, departmental meetings, and leadership development activities.
  • Complete assigned rotations in Youth Programs, Recreation, and Pool & Beach Operations.
  • Learn and support the daily operations, policies, procedures, and service standards of each assigned department.
  • Maintain a visible, hands-on leadership presence throughout the Surf Club.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures for assigned operational areas.
  • Welcome members and guests, anticipate their needs, and provide personalized service consistent with luxury hospitality standards.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to member and guest questions, requests, concerns, and feedback.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, promoting, and executing youth activities, camps, family programs, special events, and recreational experiences.
  • Support the supervision of children participating in youth programs while maintaining established safety, security, and check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Assist with the daily operation of recreation activities, including equipment preparation, activity setup, guest participation, and cleanup.
  • Learn pool and beach operations, including chair and umbrella setup, towel service, equipment management, cleanliness standards, and overall guest experience.
  • Monitor pool, beach, recreation, and youth program areas to ensure they remain safe, clean, organized, and properly maintained.
  • Assist with colleague scheduling, daily assignments, training, coaching, and performance follow-up.
  • Provide clear pre-shift communication regarding daily activities, special events, occupancy levels, weather conditions, safety considerations, and member or guest needs.
  • Assist with monitoring participation levels, staffing needs, inventory, equipment, supplies, and departmental expenses.
  • Help maintain accurate attendance records, waivers, incident reports, activity schedules, and other required departmental documentation.
  • Inspect recreational equipment and operational areas and report maintenance concerns or safety hazards immediately.
  • Follow all emergency procedures and assist with providing a safe environment for members, guests, children, and colleagues.
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications, which may include CPR, First Aid, AED, and other safety or recreation-related training.
  • Assist with seasonal programming, holiday activities, camps, tournaments, and special events.
  • Support efforts to maximize participation, enhance the member experience, and meet departmental revenue and expense goals.
  • Develop an understanding of departmental budgeting, labor management, purchasing, inventory control, and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with Food & Beverage, Security, Housekeeping, Engineering, Membership, and other departments to provide a seamless member and guest experience.
  • Perform management responsibilities related to controlling operating costs and safeguarding the property and reputation of the Club.
  • Complete assigned leadership projects, operational assessments, and presentations throughout the training program.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SCHEDULE
  • Varied schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Approximately 40 hours per week, with additional hours required based on operational and seasonal needs.
