Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Manufacturing Engineer to develop, optimize, and sustain high-precision CNC manufacturing processes for complex parts. The role is responsible for CNC programming, tooling and fixture design, machine setup and calibration, process validation, and continuous improvement to meet quality, cost, and delivery objectives for production and prototype work in a job-shop and/or production environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize CNC programs (G-Code) using CAM and post-processing tools to produce efficient, collision-free toolpaths for 3-axis through 5-axis machining.
  • Create and maintain CAM/CAD files and models using MasterCAM, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Siemens NX, Catia, CAMWorks, GibbsCAM, Edgecam or equivalent software.
  • Perform CNC simulation and verification (Vericut or similar), validate post-processors, and refine post-processing for Fanuc, Haas, Siemens Controls, Heidenhain and other controllers.
  • Design tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions to ensure repeatable, accurate setups and tight tolerance machining.
  • Select cutting tools, optimize feeds and speeds, and implement toolpath optimization and tool management best practices to reduce cycle times and extend tool life.
  • Set up and calibrate CNC milling machines, turning centers, multi-axis machines, Swiss turning and lathes; perform first part setups and machine verification.
  • Support and perform precision metrology and first article inspections using CMM, micrometers, calipers, bore gauges and related inspection tools; interpret and apply GD&T requirements.
  • Troubleshoot CNC machine issues, perform preventive maintenance, and coordinate repairs or rebuilds with maintenance and machine vendors.
  • Lead process validation activities including First Article Inspection, SPC, Statistical Process Control, root cause analysis, and corrective actions (FMEA when required).
  • Drive continuous improvement, lean initiatives, Kaizen events and Six Sigma projects to reduce cycle time and improve yield, cost and quality.
  • Ensure manufacturing documentation is maintained: process plans, setup sheets, work instructions, and inspection plans; support ISO 9001 and AS9100 compliance requirements.
  • Work cross-functionally with production planning, procurement and engineering to support material selection, production scheduling, ERP/MRP systems (SAP/Oracle) and job-shop operations.
  • Integrate automation where appropriate: robotics, PLC programming and cell integration; support EDM, Wire EDM and surface grinding processes as needed.
  • Train machine operators and junior programmers on CNC best practices, safe setup and advanced machining techniques.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent technical degree or experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in CNC programming, process development, and production support in a precision machining environment (job shop or production).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with CAM and CAD tools such as MasterCAM, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, CAMWorks, GibbsCAM, Catia, Edgecam, AutoCAD and Vericut.
  • Strong knowledge of G-Code, post-processing, CNC simulation, and controllers including Fanuc, Haas, Siemens and Heidenhain.
  • Extensive experience with 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis machining, CNC milling, turning, Swiss turning and multi-axis machining centers and lathes.
  • Proven skills in tooling design, fixture design, workholding, cutting tool selection, feeds and speeds and tool management.
  • Experience with metrology and quality systems: GD&T, CMM programming/operation, micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, FAI and SPC.
  • Practical experience with root cause analysis, FMEA, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with materials and metallurgy relevant to machining (aluminum, steels, titanium, high-performance alloys) and machining strategies for tight tolerance parts.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems (SAP or Oracle preferred), production planning and job-shop operations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate across functions.
  • Ability to travel to machine vendor sites and supplier locations as required and to work flexible hours to support production needs.
