Job description

Design the Signs that Build Our Reputation

If you’re an experienced Commercial Sign Designer who knows how to turn a great idea into a great sign, we’d love to meet you. At Mustang Signs, we create custom commercial signage that helps businesses stand out and leaves a lasting impression throughout our communities. From architectural branding and monument signs to illuminated signage and large-scale installations, every project is unique, and great design is where every successful project begins.

We're looking for a Commercial Sign Designer who can take ownership of the design process from concept through production. You'll be in our Creative Operations Department where you'll work closely with customers, sales reps, project managers, fabrication, and installation teams to develop creative, practical, and production-ready signage that meets both the customer's vision and Mustang Signs' standards.

This is a role for someone who understands that sign design is more than making something look good. It's about creating designs that are visually compelling, technically sound, buildable, and designed to perform in the real world.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • 100% Company-Paid Health Insurance Premiums for Employees – Plus optional vision and dental plans.
  • 401(k) with 4% Company Match – Because investing in your future matters.
  • Paid Time Off & Holidays – Our generous policy believes rest fuels results.
  • Team Culture That Has Your Back – We celebrate wins, solve problems together, and support each other through every project.
  • Real Growth Opportunities – Leadership, expanded responsibility, and long-term career development.
  • See Your Work Come to Life – Take your designs from the screen to fabrication and installation.

What You’ll Do

As a Sign Designer, you'll lead the design of custom commercial signage projects from initial concept through production. You'll develop creative solutions, prepare detailed production artwork, and collaborate across the company to ensure designs are accurate, functional, and ready to build.

  • Develop concepts and presentations for custom commercial signage, architectural branding, monument signs, illuminated signs, dimensional lettering, wayfinding, and other specialty applications.
  • Translate customer requirements, brand standards, architectural plans, site conditions, and project goals into compelling sign designs.
  • Create accurate, production-ready drawings and artwork for fabrication and installation.
  • Develop proofs and renderings that clearly communicate design concepts and help internal and external teams visualize the finished product.
  • Apply a strong understanding of typography, layout, color, scale, materials, illumination, and fabrication methods.
  • Review site information, survey measurements, drawings, and photos to develop practical design solutions.
  • Perform accurate field measurements and site surveys for installation projects. Document site conditions, dimensions, mounting details, access considerations, and other information necessary to successfully design, fabricate, and install commercial signage.
  • Collaborate closely with sales, project managers, fabrication, and installation teams throughout the design process.
  • Identify potential production or installation issues early and develop solutions before they become problems.
  • Manage a high volume of design projects while maintaining accuracy, quality, and deadlines.
  • Review and approve design work before being released to production.
  • Help establish design standards, SOP's, and best practices as Mustang Signs continues to grow.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of professional sign design experience or comparable experience in architectural signage, environmental graphics, or a closely related field
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Illustrator and other relevant design software
  • A portfolio demonstrating a high level of design ability with commercial signage graphics
  • Strong understanding of sign design, fabrication, materials, installation, and production processes
  • Ability to create both compelling concepts and highly accurate production-ready artwork
  • Strong understanding of typography, color, composition, scale, and visual communication
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, measurements, site plans, and technical information
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high standard for accuracy
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and priorities

You’ll Thrive Here If You

  • Have a strong creative eye and understand how things are actually built
  • Take ownership of your work from concept through production
  • Are confident making design decisions and recommendations
  • Enjoy solving complex design and production challenges
  • Care deeply about accuracy, craftsmanship, and the finished product
  • Can work independently while collaborating effectively with a larger team
  • Hold yourself and your work to a high professional standard
  • Want to play an important role in the continued growth of Mustang Signs

Let’s Build Something Great Together

Great signage starts with great design.

At Mustang Signs, your work doesn't stay on a screen. You'll see your designs become real signs, fabricated, installed, illuminated, and experienced throughout our communities. If you're an experienced sign designer ready to take ownership of meaningful projects and help create work we're proud to put our name on, we want to hear from you.

Apply today and join Mustang Signs, where great projects begin with great people.
