About Samsung Austin Semiconductor
Samsung is a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, founded on the belief that the pursuit of excellence creates a better world. At Samsung Austin Semiconductor, we are Innovating Today to Power the Devices of Tomorrow.
Come innovate with us!
Position Summary
The Tool Hookup Material Procurement Strategist is a highly specialized technical supply chain role within the semiconductor manufacturing industry. This position bridges the gap between fab construction engineering, global tool installation schedules, and complex industrial supply chains. The primary function is to oversee the end-to-end procurement of critical utility hookup materials across three main disciplines: process mechanical (e.g., ultra-high purity valves, orbital-welded piping, specialized gas panels), exhaust (e.g., corrosive-resistant ductwork, scrubbed exhaust dampers, lateral lines), and electrical systems (e.g., cleanroom-rated busways, heavy-gauge copper cabling, specialized power distribution panels). The strategist analyzes engineering layouts, projects long-term material consumption, and secures early-stage capital investments. This role is directly responsible for safeguarding project timelines against severe market volatility, global supply shortages, and unpredictable disruptions like Force Majeure events.
Role and Responsibilities
Here's What You'll Be Responsible For:
  • Manage global procurement activities for specialized process mechanical, exhaust infrastructure, and heavy electrical components.
  • Analyze complex construction drawings and equipment layout matrices to build predictive consumption models for piping, ductwork, and cabling.
  • Formulate data-driven business cases to justify early procurement investments for long-lead items like custom electrical panels and specialty alloy exhaust systems.
  • Design and implement risk-hedging strategies to counter market volatility in raw metals (e.g., copper, nickel, stainless steel) and specialized plastics.
  • Build strategic partnerships with tier-1 component manufacturers to guarantee production allocation for UHP valves and custom switchgear.
  • Collaborate with quality teams to ensure all procured process mechanical components meet stringent semiconductor cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Track procurement spend against capital expenditure limits for utility systems to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Skills and Qualifications
Here's what you'll need:
Education, Training, Credentials & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of strategic procurement experience specifically within semiconductor fab construction, managing high-purity process piping, heavy industrial electrical packages, or specialized HVAC/exhaust systems.
  • Certified Professional in Supply Chain Management (CPSM), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP), or equivalent certifications.
  • Demonstrated experience with advanced resource planning systems and digital modeling software viewing tools.

Mandatory Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
  • Deep understanding of ultra-high purity (UHP) gas/chemical delivery systems, corrosive/toxic exhaust ducting, and cleanroom electrical code.
  • Expert proficiency in advanced data analytics tools for forecasting bulk material usage like linear footage of cable trays or process tubing.
  • Mastery of commercial contract terms, legal indemnity clauses, and the mechanics of Force Majeure activation.
  • Proven ability to execute forward-buying strategies, blanket purchase agreements, and vendor-managed inventory (VMI) for volatile commodities like copper and stainless steel.
  • Ability to independently interpret complex process piping schematics, electrical single-lines, and mechanical exhaust layout drawings.

The current base salary range for this role is between $73,000 - $135,000. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
