Public Safety Response Coordinator


Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) 

Baton Rouge, Louisiana  

Ensuring Excellence in Service, Coordinating Effective Emergency Response, Supporting Community Safety

Under general supervision, the Public Safety Response Coordinator position performs a variety of complex functions, which includes, but not limited to entering and accessing real-time information into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) System,), operate & monitor closed-circuit television (CCTV) System at all BRCC Locations, acts as the point of contact with the general public for emergency situations, accidents, complaints, etc., receive and respond to requests from enforcement officers/agents. The incumbent is also required by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Louisiana State Police to obtain credentials in accessing and adhering to Terminal Operator Certification Program Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification and recertification requirement within six months of employment. 

Key Responsibilities 

40% Response Coordination

  • Inform Officers of complaints that need to be investigated and transmit all information necessary to ensure safety of officers and the BRCC Community.
  • Receives and analyzes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; prioritize the calls.
  •  Handles complex calls and responds to general public complaints and inquiries.
  • Receives and transmits messages over two-way radio equipment, telephone, computer equipment and teletype concerning crimes, and police emergencies.
  • Maintains the location of officers and security guards on duty. Dispatches officers as necessary to investigate complaints. Alert the nearest officer and relay the information.
  • Coordinates with wreckers, ambulances, & other first responders to BRCC Locations as needed. Relays pertinent information in a factual and concise manner.
  • Enters all call information into the CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system.

 

30% Operate & Monitor CCTV (Closed-circuit television).

  • Review, monitor, retrieve video footage daily at all BRCC Locations. Report outages, triage inoperable views, and burn video footage as needed.
  • Researches and analyzes discrepancies and burns video footage as needed.
  • Ensures required authorization and documentation is obtained before releasing video footage to the District Attorney (DA) and/or other Law Enforcement Agencies requesting video footage.
  • Communicates with appropriate personnel and/or departments relative to video footage reviewed & provides reports as needed.
  •  Works with Supervisors to ensure all dates, time, and location of incidents identified are secured in a timely manner. Provides support for police officers and local law enforcement in timelines.

 

10% Maintenance

  • Submit work orders and help desk tickets as needed. Complete spreadsheet when Emergency Equipment is assessed at BRCC Locations.

 

10% Customer-Service Representative

  • Work Customer-Service Area to assist with parking decals and BRCC IDs for students, employees, visitors, vendors, etc.

5% NCIC & Compliance

  • Complies with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, college, and departmental policies. Maintains proper record keeping and daily logs of radio and teletype activities, update desk log during communications.
  • Operates computer terminals to obtain vehicle and criminal record information.
  • Checks for stolen vehicles, stolen license plates, wanted people, and invalid drivers' licenses through State Police and N.C.I.C. computers.
  • Maintains wrecker slips and towing information

5% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications 

Education 

  • Associate's degree in criminal justice or any related field.  

Experience 

Two (2) years of relevant experience; or

An associate's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field in lieu of the required experience; or

A high school diploma with four (4) years of relevant experience. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Proficient:

  • Working knowledge of computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database software applications.
  • Organizational & time management skills
  • Attention to detail, time management, and organization to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Preferred Experience

  • 2 years' experience with Public Safety, Security, NCIC, Law Enforcement, Communications or a related field.
