Job description

SAFETY MANAGER

General Summary of the Position: Working under the guidance of our Safety Director, the Safety Manager is expected to conduct on‑site field safety inspections, project safety audits, safety talks, and train project employees in various safety and OSHA related topics across Texas Infrastructure services division.

The Safety Manager will assist in identifying and developing safety policies and procedures that help prevent harm to workers and property, and create policies for workers to follow that minimize job‑related hazards.

  • Work toward better understanding safety culture in the highway infrastructure management environment and develop new techniques to engage employees in the safety process.
  • Have ability to travel to projects; 50% overnight travel may be required.
Major Functions of the Job
  • Assists in reducing and eliminating accident hazards and frequencies to keep workers and the public safe from harm.
  • Develops safety reports, monitors cameras and GPS program to identify and eliminate risk factors.
  • Research latest industry standards for workplace safety and methods to predict and prevent hazards.
  • Ensures light duty is being monitored and follows up daily with injured workers.
  • Becomes familiar with current State and Federal occupational health and safety laws.
  • Informs Regional Safety Manager of areas not in compliance with State and Federal laws or employer policies.
  • Evaluates and uncovers patterns in injury data.
  • Assists in the administration of division safety rules and instructions.
  • Presents project status to Regional Safety Manager at end of work cycle.
Minor Functions of the Job
  • Lead and coordinate required training.
  • Be a dependable and productive team player with minimal direct oversight.
  • Show initiative; seek out work and get the job done without being told.
  • Provide assistance to projects, regional management and support staff as necessary.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and other team members.
  • Ensure maintenance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all potentially hazardous chemicals and materials used.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Factors
  • Moderate lifting; up to 50 pounds.
  • Dexterity to write and manipulate computer, keyboard, mouse, and smart phone.
  • Ability to hear and speak clearly.
  • Body mobility to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to energize and influence at the leadership level.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including facilitation, negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Works well with a variety of individuals.
  • Willing and able to travel for work when needed.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and execute work plans.
  • Solid analytical, organizational, prioritization and project management skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Microsoft Teams and JDE.
  • Strong communication skills, oral and written.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate a message clearly and precisely.
  • Dependable and highly organized with business maturity, discretion, enthusiasm, and positive attitude.
  • Capable of establishing and nurturing longstanding relationships with industry professionals.
  • Adapts well to shifting situations and variable environments.
