Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Safety Manager leads the day-to-day development, implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of KCI's companywide safety program, translating KCI's safety commitments into practical procedures, training, field practices, audits, corrective actions, and measurable accountability across the company. The Safety Manager will help ensure employees understand and follow the safety regulations, standards, and procedures applicable to their work, with the goal of reducing risk, maintaining safe work environments, and strengthening KCI's overall safety culture.

This is a hands-on role for a safety professional who is equally comfortable on a job site and in an office. The Safety Manager will partner with operational leaders, field employees, Human Resources, Fleet, and a distributed network of safety representatives and subject-matter experts. The successful candidate will influence through expertise, relationships, involvement, and consistent follow-through and will approach field engagement not only as an audit function, but also as an opportunity to coach, support, and serve as a resource to employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*:

  • Work closely with company and Sector leadership to identify and prioritize safety needs and develop Sector-specific safety plans that address risks, training, prevention measures, and communications while supporting a consistent culture of safety across KCI.
  • Conduct a companywide safety needs assessment and lead an overhaul of the KCI Safety Manual. Update safety procedures, standards, and guidance to comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, client requirements, and industry best practices. Coordinate any recommended policy changes with appropriate company leadership.
  • Develop and implement a continuous safety improvement program supported by risk assessments, training, field audits, incident investigations, performance metrics, corrective actions, and consistent follow-through.
  • Serve as KCI's corporate safety audit lead. Conduct planned and unannounced visits to project sites and offices, provide practical coaching and support, document findings, coordinate corrective actions, and verify that identified issues are addressed.
  • Conduct or support investigations of injuries, safety incidents, significant motor-vehicle accidents, and near-misses. Identify root causes, recommend corrective and preventive actions, develop or revise procedures when warranted, communicate lessons learned, and verify follow-through.
  • Develop and implement Sector-specific and companywide safety orientation, training, and refresher programs so employees have the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain and promote a safe work environment.
  • Develop and support a network of local safety representatives and subject-matter experts who help communicate safety expectations, reinforce procedures, identify emerging risks, and support implementation throughout KCI.
  • Serve as the primary safety liaison with Human Resources on health and safety compliance, incident reporting and documentation, workers' compensation matters, trend analysis, interactions with OSHA and related follow-up.
  • Coordinate with KCI subject-matter experts and operational leaders to maintain required client and contractor safety prequalifications, including Avetta and comparable platforms, necessary to pursue and perform work for specific clients and markets
  • Work with the KCI Fleet team to develop and implement driver-safety programs, review significant motor-vehicle incidents, identify trends, and coordinate appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate and oversee suppliers and contracts for first aid kits, AEDs, personal protective equipment, and other safety-related services and equipment. Evaluate needs, service quality, compliance, and cost, and support competitive procurement when appropriate.
  • Represent KCI in relevant industry safety organizations and share regulatory developments, industry trends, and useful practices with company leadership and other appropriate audiences.
  • Develop health and safety budget recommendations for review by the Executive Sponsor and manage the approved budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to KCI's highest-priority safety needs and initiatives.
