People & Culture Business Partner - Pharma Technical Operations Global Functions

Pharma Technical Operations (PT) manufactures and delivers Roche's ground-breaking therapies to more than 120 million patients around the world. PT is involved in producing every Roche medicine - from the development process to clinical trials, continuing through product maturity. We make our medicines at 9 sites around the world and coordinate all aspects of production of Roche medicines in all disease areas and dosage forms.

Pharma Technical Development Overview:

Pharma Technical Development (PTD) collaborates across Research & Development to efficiently transform scientific ideas into products by developing robust and efficient manufacturing processes and quality control systems. PTD reliably delivers the clinical pipeline, from the lab to supplying quality products for patients enrolled in clinical studies worldwide. PTD is committed to excellence and patient-centered solutions and drives innovation to enhance access and convenience for patients worldwide. The PTD organization comprises nearly 2700 employees based in South San Francisco; Basel, Switzerland; Penzberg Germany; and Mississauga, Canada.

The position will report to the US P&C Lead for Pharma Technical Operations as a member of the US P&C Business Partner team. They will also be a member of the PTD P&C global team, led by the Global Head of PTD P&C.

The Opportunity:

The People & Culture (P&C) Business Partner will be the strategic partner to 3 PTD Global Vice Presidents leading the Biologics Clinical Supply Network, Analytical Development and QC, and PTD Data & Digital solutions development. This role collaborates closely with other P&C Business Partners and client PTD Leadership teams to understand long-term business needs and strategic P&C priorities. This position will translate business strategy into P&C strategies and drive implementation. The role will also support initiatives in other parts of the business based on overall priorities. The Business Partner role is a trusted strategic partner and coach accountable for fostering VACC leadership, advancing organizational design and effectiveness, building a workplace culture focused on belonging and inclusion, and securing future talent and capabilities.

Business Acumen

  • Aligns P&C strategy, goals, and objectives to overall business strategies and objectives; translates P&C strategies to drive key business results; provides guidance on talent management, workforce strategies, organization design and reward and recognition in partnership with other P&C colleagues to develop high quality solutions

  • Maintains broad-based knowledge of multiple leadership areas across the organization and its operations; uses knowledge of business and P&C insights, metrics, expertise, to effectively diagnose topics with a wide range of complexity

  • Recommends business practice/work process improvements to identify opportunities for leveraging human capital

  • Maintains knowledge of external environment and other related information on peer and comparison groups to effectively diagnose and implement strategies to help drive business decisions

Leadership

  • Strategic sparring partner and coach for fostering a leadership culture in line with the Roche leadership framework and behaviors

  • Translates the business vision, mission, and strategy along with the 10 year ambition and P&C Aspirational Goals into projects and initiatives with milestones and delivery schedules; leads or participates in Work Product Teams to effectively meet planned objectives; develops clear action plans with results-oriented goals for measuring success; drives alignment and buy-in within multiple leadership areas as part of a network

  • Diagnoses P&C needs and identifies interventions that address issues of retention, change leadership, employee engagement, and leadership development, partnering with other Business Partners, Work Product Teams and other P&C Chapters as appropriate; uses appropriate tools for leadership competency and skills assessment

  • Drives and implements change with proven ability to influence business leaders and P&C professionals to required outcomes

  • Embodies a mindset of customer excellence and results orientation

  • Influences, develops, mentors and provides leadership to networks and work product teams in partnership with Advisory Business Partners and P&C Chapter Partners

Strategic P&C Insights & Innovation

  • Gathers and analyzes internal and external data, evidence-based research, benchmarks, P&C and business metrics to make critical decisions; shares insights with leaders and recommends innovative solutions that support the culture, strategic direction and resources

  • Diagnoses root causes of workplace issues, disruptive team dynamics and ineffective organizational setups; initiates interventions and shapes solutions in collaboration and co-creation with key stakeholders across multiple leadership areas

Who You Are:

  • 12+ years of broad and progressive HR business partner experience with emphasis on biotech/pharma commercial, high tech background

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources (related field) preferred, and/or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred

  • Exemplifies strong leadership skills, with or without direct reports and demonstrates the potential to take on broader and more impactful P&C enterprise roles

  • Demonstrates enterprise mindset and system thinking, proven ability to work effectively across multiple leadership areas, global teams and networks in a fast paced environment

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in effectively diagnosing short to mid-term P&C needs, and shaping and leading large scale global initiatives to address them

  • Passion for and focus on building diverse and inclusive work cultures which foster psychological safety and a strong sense of belonging

  • Role models VACC leadership. Proven ability to lead with a creative mindset, acting as a coach and mentor for senior leaders

  • Demonstrated passion and drive to shape People & Culture across large and diverse business areas.

  • Ability to influence with courageous authenticity and build trust with individuals at all levels within the organization, challenging the status quo when appropriate

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate the P&C system, leverage P&C Chapters and SME's for business impact and build strong collaborations to deliver on business and P&C strategies

  • Leverage technology and data to generate insights as foundation for diagnosis, recommendations and decisions.

  • Passion and ability to leverage current and emerging digital tools for collaboration, co-creation, and sharing across the system

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) to effectively address all organizational levels

  • Takes active role in self-development and building future skills and capabilities

This position is based on site in South San Francisco.

Relocation Benefits are not available for this posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is$160,800 to $298,600. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
