Job description

Senior Counsel, Commercial Litigation and Investigations – Global Legal Pharma

Position: Senior Counsel, Commercial Litigation and Investigations, Global Legal Pharma. Location: Genentech, South San Francisco, California. Reports to the Senior Director of Global Commercial Litigation and Investigations. This full‑time role is not available for remote work or relocation benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage an active and varied caseload of commercial litigations and government investigations, appeals, and other adversarial proceedings.
  • Advise on substantive legal strategy, including risk tolerance and creative solutions.
  • Partner closely with business clients and legal department colleagues on high‑impact, strategic issues.
  • Develop strategies to advance, avoid, or resolve regional, national, and international disputes, including negotiating settlements.
  • Counsel on multi‑jurisdictional litigations or other proceedings and coordinate with global counterparts.
  • Contribute to cross‑functional or departmental projects and teams in Global Legal Pharma.
  • Collaborate effectively with stakeholders within Genentech and Roche Pharma.
  • Travel as needed to manage and resolve disputes.
Qualifications
  • 7–10+ years of experience litigating and resolving complex, high‑stakes commercial litigation or government investigations.
  • Expert litigation strategist with a track record of setting and executing high‑impact, creative strategies.
  • Hands‑on trial and litigation skills preferred.
  • Experienced in the life sciences, including commercial contract disputes, IP litigation, FCA matters, class actions, and/or product liability cases.
  • Knowledge and commitment to leveraging emerging AI‑enabled technologies to improve litigation efficiency.
  • Preferred: experience in an in‑house setting (not required).
  • Valid license to practice law in at least one U.S. state; in good standing.
  • Registered or eligible to register as a Registered In‑House Counsel in California.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $203,800 to $378,400 (based on California location). Pay determined by experience, qualifications, and other factors. Annual discretionary bonus may be available based on performance. Benefits package available as per company policy.
