Job Title: Welding Engineer

Purpose of Position/Summary:
The Welding Engineer is responsible for assuring the company meets its goals for safe production and meets all quality, cost and delivery goals. This position is responsible for ensuring that all products are manufactured with utmost efficiency and quality, according to planned protocols using the appropriate technology.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Implements lean manufacturing methodologies to reduce setup time, improve parts flow and reduce waste;
  • Identifies and drives implementation of ergonomic improvements and cost reduction improvements;
  • Design, procurement and installation of automated welding equipment;
  • Programming, maintenance and troubleshooting of robotic welding equipment;
  • New product development and process input to Design Engineering by completing various manufacturing support related tasks such as tooling, fixtures and validation, assures key characteristics and tolerances are identified;
  • Performs failure investigation on non-conforming material from customer returned product;
  • Conducts and/or participates in team meetings to improves products and processes;
  • Analyses and processes corrective actions and assures effectiveness of same;
  • Actively contributes to decisions on capital expenditures, new product development, safety/ergonomics and quality;
  • Conducts Process Capability Studies and develops Corrective Action Plans;
  • Works to continually improve our products, processes, quality, delivery and costs;
  • Writes and processes change notices for process improvements, cost savings and manufacturability improvement projects;
  • Trains and develops new and existing associates in areas such as safety, quality, delivery and costs;
  • Ensures consistent compliance to all company and departmental policies and procedures;
  • Effectively manages department resources such as supplies and equipment to control costs and meet production demands;
  • New product development by designing, installing and confirming capability of tooling necessary to launch new products;
  • Creates and maintains documentation necessary to satisfy quality system requirements;
  • Other duties assigned by the Production Engineering Manager on an as needed basis.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or appropriate related technical discipline, is required from an accredited institution. 4-6 years of related experience may substitute for a college diploma. Experience with automated robotic welding, particularly Fanuc controls preferred. Certified Welding Inspection preferred. Tooling design experience utilizing AutoCAD preferred. Programing and troubleshooting Omron PLCs preferred. This position requires the ability to read mechanical and electrical prints. Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment is preferred. This position also requires the ability to work in a cross-functional, fast paced environment, and manage multiple activities simultaneously. Proficient in using technology, including MS Office suite. This position requires the ability to identify and resolve issues without direct supervision. Excellent analytical, negotiation, project management, organization, evaluation and problem solving skills are required. Must possess strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills and can provide exceptional customer service to all customers and all departments in the KYB organization. Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
