THE POSITION
The Medical Records Supervisor position at the Department of Corrections, SCI-Laurel Highlands offers an exciting chance to lead an important part of the institution's health care operation. You will guide a team that manages critical records used to support safe, accurate, and timely medical care for inmates. This role strengthens your leadership skills while allowing you to build meaningful experience in health information management. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position manages the development, organization, and maintenance of inmate medical records while overseeing staff who support daily record operations. As a Medical Records Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:
  • Staff Supervision: Direct subordinate staff by assigning tasks, reviewing work, and providing training
  • Record Management: Organize and maintain inmate health records in accordance with policy and documentation standards
  • Record Processing: File, issue, and prepare medical records for transfers, parole, and legal proceedings
  • Quality Review: Examine medical records for completeness and refer incomplete documentation for correction
  • Statistical Reporting: Compile reports on subjects such as morbidity, mortality, and service usage
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate recordkeeping methods and support quality assurance efforts

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificate or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certificate issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or eligibility for certification including completion of an AHIMA approved RHIT or RHIA Health Information Management education program.

Post Employment Requirement:
  • Employees who meet the Necessary Special Requirement based on the eligibility option for the RHIT or RHIA certification must obtain one of these certifications within 12 months of employment.

Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
