Job Profile Summary
Lead Financial Reporting Accountant, working independently with limited supervision, is responsible for leading the preparation, analysis, and distribution of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for both internal and external use. This role demonstrates mastery in advanced financial reporting, SEC compliance, and business process optimization, playing a pivotal role in decision-making, audit coordination, and mentorship to foster the overall excellence of the Financial Reporting function. The position excels in managing reporting deadlines, collaborating across disciplines, and translating complex financial data into actionable insights, while ensuring compliance with GAAP and SEC guidelines.
Job Description
• Leads the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports for external use, ensuring all documentation complies with SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines.
• Serves as liaison with external auditors and coordinates audit-related activities.
• Understands the industry and Devon's operations and applies that understanding to financial performance and results.
• Reports, communicates, and presents financial analysis "plain English" terms.
• Independently applies advanced accounting principles, theories, and concepts to assignments such as financial statement reviews, analysis, and interpretation at a high level of proficiency and productivity.
• Collaborates with other accounting and reporting staff to improve departmental communications and overall accounting efficiencies.
• Assists in the preparation and review of press releases and operations reports as part of the quarterly and yearly reporting cycle; interacts and provides information to investor relations, as needed.
• Assists in the preparation of 10-Q, 10-K, press releases, operations reports, and governmental reports as part of the quarterly and yearly reporting cycle.
• Understands and adheres to systems of internal control.
• Mentors and provides guidance to other team members as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
Experience:
• Approximately 3-5 years of experience in public accounting, financial reporting, and/or oil and gas accounting.
• Public accounting experience preferred.
Competencies:
• Strong technical experience and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and SEC reporting
• Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
• Demonstrate and promote Devon's employee attributes
• Strong organization, time management, attention to detail and prioritization skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
Certifications:
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
