Optum's Interoperability Managed Services team is the practice within Optum Insight's Product business unit that focuses on the intersecting workflows between health plans (payers) and health systems (providers). The Interoperability Services team is comprised of individuals across the U.S. and Ireland who are dedicated to improving the healthcare delivery system through the power of healthcare technology, specifically, the integrated applications and tools that facilitate bi-directional data exchange between payers IT applications and EHRs. By joining the Interoperability Solutions  team, you'll partner with some of the most gifted healthcare technology thought leaders within the industry, collaborate with experienced consulting and healthcare leaders, and help partners capture mission-, clinical- and operations-centric benefits.


Optum seeks an Interoperability Managed Services Manager with hands-on experience in Epic Payer Platform and other implementation and operation projects. They will manage integration teams, analyze and prioritize stakeholder needs, monitor progress on performance, train and develop consulting best practices, and align with internal and external leaders to ensure successful project execution and value creation.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Epic Payer Platform and other interoperability solution application design, development, maintenance activities of applications/capabilities under direct purview
  • Collaborate with end users to design interoperability workflows by suggesting corrective adjustments or enhancements
  • Determine staffing requirements, perform capacity planning for resources and supervise the work of direct reports to ensure that team is functioning effectively and efficiently
  • Serve as a mentor, resource, and primary advisor for all direct reports
  • Provides technical/integration workflow guidance including application configuration. Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates systems needs to develop recommendations for customers
  • Lead all phases (design, build, testing) of medium to large scale projects, including upgrades, full scale implementations, new capability implementations and significant optimization initiatives
  • Provide support for application incidents reported through the help desk; including 24/7 on call coverage as required
  • Manage in-depth analysis of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with applications
  • Work with department representatives to analyze needs and translate these into system design
  • Assist team to translate business requirements into functional specifications and manages changes to specifications; prioritize, coordinate, and implement updates and requested changes to the system; reviews and tests each new release; troubleshoots problems and questions from end users
  • Manage and develop solid relationships with end user communities, customers and business partners
  • Facilitate communication with stakeholders from initial requirements to final implementation

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed Epic CEE (Continued Epic Education) to maintain certifications, proficiencies, and badges
  • 7 years of experience across HealthCare and/or IT domains 
  • 5 years of Epic configuration experience
  • 2 years of experience with resource management and/or large-scale project management.
  • 2 current Epic certifications
  • 2 years of experience configuring and supporting interoperability workflows like clinical data exchange, prior authorization, primary source verification, event notifications (ADT/SIU), care gaps exchange, risk adjustment, ID card exchange, real-time eligibility and more
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Teams


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Service Management, Project Management, or Business Analysis 
  • Revenue Cycle experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
