POSITION OVERVIEW โ€“ Senior Project Controller / Cost Analyst
Reporting to the Project Controls Manager or Project Manager, the Senior Project Controller / Cost Analyst will play a critical role in managing project cost controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for large-scale, capital-intensive mining and construction projects. This position is responsible for providing accurate cost data, forecasting project performance, analyzing variances, and supporting project leadership with financial insights to ensure projects are delivered within budget and aligned with company objectives.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in project controls, cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting within mining, heavy industrial, EPC, construction, or large capital project environments. This individual will collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, construction, finance, and contractor teams while driving continuous improvement initiatives within the project controls function.
RESPONSIBILITIES
โ€ข Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets and identify cost variances.
โ€ข Develop, maintain, and update project budgets and Estimates at Completion (EAC).
โ€ข Perform detailed variance analysis, trend analysis, and root cause investigations.
โ€ข Prepare weekly, monthly, and ad hoc project cost reports, dashboards, and executive presentations.
โ€ข Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure project performance and efficiency.
โ€ข Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure accurate cost tracking, invoice validation, and work order management.
โ€ข Partner with project teams to optimize resource utilization and cost allocation.
โ€ข Conduct cost-benefit analyses and economic evaluations to support strategic business decisions.
โ€ข Lead continuous improvement efforts related to cost control processes, systems, and methodologies.
โ€ข Ensure compliance with company financial procedures, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
โ€ข Maintain accurate, auditable project cost records and documentation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
โ€ข 6โ€“10+ years of experience in cost analysis, project controls, financial planning, or project cost management.
โ€ข Experience supporting large capital projects within mining, construction, industrial, manufacturing, energy, or EPC environments.
โ€ข Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
โ€ข Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
โ€ข Experience performing variance analysis, forecasting, and budget development.
โ€ข Strong understanding of financial statements and project performance metrics.
โ€ข Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
โ€ข Ability to communicate complex financial information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
โ€ข Masterโ€™s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or related field.
โ€ข Professional certification such as CMA, CCP, CCEA, PMP, or similar.
โ€ข Experience with project controls and cost management software such as PRISM, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
