Job description

Description Part-time position, no benefits Maximum 1,000 hours per fiscal year. Approximately 20 hours a week. Subject to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The salary above does not reflect a 2% cost of living increase that will take effect on July 1, 2026. All new hires will begin at Step 1 ($17.47 per hour). Employees receive an annual 5% step increase until reaching the top step of $23.42 per hour, contingent upon satisfactory performance and hours worked

Perform a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled general labor and maintenance work; assist in the routine repair, maintenance and cleaning of City beach, open spaces, parks, municipal fishing pier, public restrooms and other City properties and facilities. Assist with the set-up, tear down and cleaning of special events. Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the immediate supervision of Tidelands or Grounds and Facilities Supervisor, or his or her designee. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None. Duties and Responsibilities Performs required labor involved in cleaning and maintenance; alone and as a part of a crew, including lifting and carrying trash containers.

Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Drives light trucks in the loading, hauling and unloading of trash containers, sand and various equipment. Performs routine cleaning, inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned area and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.

Performs custodial and routine minor repair and maintenance duties of public facilities, including public restrooms, sweeps, mops, clean and sanitize restrooms, replenishes supplies, clean grounds, remove trash. As directed, organize and sets up chairs, tables, and other equipment in for special events. Identify and notify management of problems on the beach, parks and streets before, during and after hours.

Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of: Some knowledge of equipment, materials, methods and procedures used in cleaning, maintenance and repair activities. Ability to: Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public, ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions in English.

Qualifications Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education & Experience High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D). Licensing Possession of or ability to obtain, prior to employment, a valid Class "C" California driver's license with a safe, satisfactory driving record and able to maintain through the course of employment
