Overview
The HR Business Partner (HRBP) is responsible for aligning client/organizational objectives with Human Resources plans and services while performing HR-related duties on a professional level. This role is key to the effective integration of HR value-added services with the administrative and academic departments of the university. The HRBP works closely with HR team members across all areas of service delivery and is responsible for "client account management" across multiple schools and administrative departments. This position carries out responsibilities across multiple functional areas including but not limited to: employee relations, training, performance management, organizational talent/development assessment, and overall HR operational support.
The position serves as a consultant to management on human resource-related issues, determining alternative courses of action, assessing risk and proposing integrated solutions to achieve desired outcomes. The successful HRBP is viewed as a member of their client's leadership team and acts as both a change agent and employee champion. The role assesses and anticipates HR-related needs and communicates proactively within both HR and business units. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver client-focused service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization. The HRBP operates strategically and will also have extensive tactical responsibilities while matrix-managing project teams and resources to ensure high quality solution delivery.
The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about their clients' challenges, midrange and long-term plans, culture, and external threats and challenges. The HRBP is a key leader in HR service delivery and works directly with Touro University Nevada's Head of Human Resources on strategic projects.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Primary point of contact for managers and employees to understand HR service delivery model and obtain services.
  • Administers various human resource plans and procedures for client groups;
  • Manages FMLA and Reasonable Accommodations processes; escalates unique issues to the Director of Human Resources for guidance in administration.
  • Assists in the development drafting and implementation of policies and procedures as necessary;
  • Performs Compensation and Payroll duties under the direction of Head of HR.
  • Serves as point person for all employee related health insurance plans including short-term and long-term disability, dental, vision, health, retirement plans, qualified tuition reduction plans, and employee assistance program.
  • Provides policy guidance and interpretation to employees.
  • Conducts regular meetings with respective client groups including participation in appropriate staff meetings.
  • Consults with line management providing HR guidance with an emphasis on influencing decision-making when necessary and appropriate.
  • Establishes and manages strategic projects often in conjunction with Executive Management, Deans, Department Heads, etc.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in concert with the HR Centers of Excellence to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Responsible for Employee Relations. Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues; conducts effective thorough and objective investigations often in conjunction with the Office of Institutional Compliance; conducts exit interviews; and analyzes data to determine trends. Recommends course of action to Human Resources Director.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance partnering with the legal department as needed/required.
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g. coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions, etc.).
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. Collaborates with an external partner to design, implement, and analyze organizational Climate Survey results. Provides results to HRD and CEO. Identifies organizational development opportunities and facilitates identification/creation of employee training programs.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Master's Degree or other advanced education with an emphasis in Business Employment, Human Resources, and/or Labor & Employee Relations preferred
  • Professional in Human Resources; (PHR) or Society for Human Resource Management - Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) highly preferred

Experience:
  • 3 - 5 years of Human Resources experience including working knowledge of HR services (employee relations, performance management, compensation, talent management, recruitment, organizational development, and employment law) required
  • Experience in higher education preferred

Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
  • Experience in HR systems and technology (including Banner)
  • Exceptional analytical problem solving skills, collaboration, and matrix management skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in communication (written and verbal)
  • Overall business acumen, ethical decision making, and relationship management skills
