Job description

Job Summary:

The Plant Controller reporting directly to the President is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the foundry, including budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, financial reporting, inventory control, and compliance. This role ensures financial integrity, supports strategic decision-making, and partners closely with operations to improve profitability and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee all financial activities of the foundry, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings; prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain and improve cost accounting systems for tracking material, labor, and overhead costs associated with casting and production.
  • Monitor and analyze foundry performance metrics (e.g., cost per ton, yield, scrap rates) and provide actionable insights to operations management.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with plant leadership.
  • Ensure accurate inventory accounting, including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods; lead annual physical inventory and cycle counts.
  • Support internal and external audits; ensure financial controls and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with plant and corporate leadership to evaluate capital investment projects and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Provide financial leadership for pricing decisions, margin analysis, and strategic planning.
  • Manage and develop finance staff; foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in heavy manufacturing or a foundry environment. Demonstrated knowledge in general accounting and financial reporting is essential.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business is required; CPA or CMAย strongly preferred.
  • 5โ€“8+ years of experience in manufacturing finance or accounting, with at least 2 years in a plant controller or cost accounting role.
  • Deep understanding of standard cost systems, inventory valuation, and cost drivers in a foundry or heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Odyssey preferred) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to communicate financial data effectively to non-financial stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the metal casting or foundry industry (e.g., iron, aluminum, steel).
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma initiatives.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a continuous improvement mindset.
