AI Software Engineering Manager
Location: Austin, TX Area (Hybrid - 3 days onsite)
Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced AI Software Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing engineering team responsible for designing, building, and scaling cloud-native, AI-enabled applications within a complex enterprise environment. This is a hands-on leadership role that combines people management with technical leadership, requiring active involvement in architecture, solution design, and software delivery.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, results-driven engineering leader who enjoys mentoring teams while remaining technically engaged. This role offers the opportunity to influence the adoption of AI across the software development lifecycle, improve engineering productivity, and help modernize enterprise applications.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers across multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture focused on accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage hiring, performance reviews, coaching, succession planning, and career development.
  • Align team priorities, capacity, and execution with organizational goals and business objectives.

Technical Leadership
  • Serve as a player-coach by contributing to architecture, technical design, code reviews, and complex problem-solving.
  • Lead the delivery of cloud-native applications, including new platform development and modernization of existing solutions.
  • Promote engineering best practices, software quality, and scalable solution design.
  • Evaluate technology options, architectural approaches, and build-versus-buy decisions.

AI-Enabled Software Development
  • Champion the adoption of AI-assisted software development tools and engineering practices.
  • Drive implementation of AI-enabled solutions that improve developer productivity, software quality, and delivery velocity.
  • Collaborate with engineering leadership to identify opportunities for responsible and scalable AI adoption throughout the software development lifecycle.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with engineering, product, business, and operations teams to deliver technology solutions aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Support delivery within a regulated environment by adhering to security, compliance, and governance standards.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with increasing technical leadership responsibilities.
  • Current or recent experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and talent development.
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and deploying solutions in AWS cloud environments.
  • Experience developing modern applications using technologies such as Python, C#, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native services.
  • Experience working with AI-enabled software development environments, including AI-assisted coding tools or AI-integrated application delivery.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, cloud-native application development, and modern engineering practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business value.
  • Demonstrated success delivering technology initiatives in fast-paced, collaborative environments with a high degree of ownership and accountability.

Compensation: $145,000-165,000 annually
Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
