United Rentals is seeking a Product Development Manager (PDM) within its Advanced Solutions Group (ASG). As the industry leader in equipment rental and jobsite solutions, United Rentals is committed to delivering innovative technologies that enhance customer productivity, safety, and sustainability across dynamic worksites.

This role is focused on driving innovation and maturing ASG's offerings  by identifying, incubating, and operationalizing new solutions for deployment across the organization. The PDM collaborates with internal teams and external partners in order to identify promising technologies, develop business cases, test prototypes, and support the Company and Digital Customer Success team within go-to-market (GTM) initiatives. The successful integration of these solutions reinforces United Rentals’ position as a differentiated strategic industry partner.

What you’ll do:

Lead product development lifecycle from concept through pilot execution and maturity into scalable offerings:

  • Lead solution development lifecycle from concept through pilot execution and maturity into scalable offerings.

    • Work cross-functionally with ASG team members and field leadership to pilot and enhance innovative jobsite solutions.

    • Collaborate with regional teams (RFDs, RSMDs, RVPs, DMs) to ensure readiness for deployment and maximize adoption across the organization.

    • Work closely with Sourcing and IT to ensure solution viability and compatibility within operational infrastructure.

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to prototype and evaluate new technologies by leveraging insights to guide solution refinement.

    • Identify emerging technologies that align with customer needs and support core business objectives focused on safety, productivity, and sustainability.

    • Pilot new technologies with internal teams and select customers to validate effectiveness and scalability.

    • Continuously enhance solutions based on field feedback and real-world performance to ensure maximum customer value.

Support the development of GTM strategies and coordinate rollout plans with the Digital Customer Success Team to ensure seamless implementation.

  • Act as one of ASG's SME's and single point of contact for evolving portfolio of innovative technologies and solutions.

  • Support the creation and presentation of strategic proposals, including financial assessments, analysis of alternatives, and market evaluations.

  • Strengthen relationships with sales teams (ISRs, OSRs, SAMs, NAMs, DNAs) to support field-level engagement and value delivery.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced technical or business training a plus

  • 5+ years in product development, project management, or R&D

  • Experience introducing and managing complex technical solutions within customer environments

  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic proposals and implement business-focused rollout plans

  • Strong familiarity with construction technologies, including IoT, AI, and sensor-based systems

  • Background in telematics and connected technologies such as Bluetooth, Zigbee, LoRaWAN, GPS, cellular, access management, robotics, and RFID preferred

  • Proven success in cross-functional collaboration and team-oriented environments

  • Familiarity with United Rentals’ internal systems and existing relationships across multiple regions is highly advantageous

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and Excel

  • Solid understanding of civil construction practices

  • Familiarity with site access, equipment access, and worker insight offerings

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Passion for innovation and a track record of delivering results through technology

  • Travel 50%, should be near major airport
