We are seeking a Director of Operations to lead the operational performance of six locations and serve as the CEO's primary partner on day-to-day operations. The Director of Operations reports directly to the CEO and will collaborate with the executive leadership team holding the responsibility for ensuring each location is operating efficiently, meeting financial and operational goals, and continuously improving performance. This is a high impact leadership role, and this person will work closely with each location's General Manager (GM), providing leadership, accountability, financial oversight, and practical solutions to improve the performance of their location.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on operational leader who is equally comfortable discussing EBITDA, jobs, sales, accounts receivable (AR), collections, operating expenses (OPEX), staffing, processes, and performance metrics. The Director of Operations will generate reports for the executive team to look at the numbers, identify the problem, determine a solution, and hold the team accountable for executing it.

Key Responsibilities of this position:

Multi-Location Leadership

  • Provide overall operational leadership and oversight for six locations.
  • Partner directly with the CEO to establish operational priorities, goals, and performance expectations.
  • Establish consistent operating standards, processes, and accountability across all locations.
  • Review and analyze EBITDA and profitability, sales and revenue performance, accounts receivable, collections, operating expenses, labor and staffing, productivity and efficiency, and other key operational metrics.
  • Identify areas of underperformance and operational issues before they become significant financial or performance problems.
  • Provide specific recommendations, strategies, and solutions to improve results.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Operational Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, increase revenue, and improve profitability.
  • Develop and implement operational processes that can be consistently applied across locations.
  • Analyze and monitor business performance and translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Promote best practices across locations and ensure successful processes are replicated throughout the organization.
  • Assist in customer services issues when escalated to corporate and facilitate resolutions on jobs.
  • Run the weekly executive meeting. Generate dashboards and keep meeting notes to ensure an effective discussion pertaining to the company's needs.
  • Utilize AI to effectively automate processes, reports, and other critical business functions.

Operations Controller

  • Review and analyze location level financial performance including jobs, sales, AR, collections, and OPEX.
  • Monitor EBITDA and identify financial trends, variances, and areas requiring corrective action.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to improve financial controls, accountability, and ensure operational decisions are aligned with financial objectives.
  • Provide support with establishing budgets, targets, forecasts, and performance benchmarks.
  • Provide CEO with clear visibility into the financial and operational health of each location
  • Generate reports, KPIs, and insight into each individual location based on their unique needs.
  • Work with GM's and locational accountants to ensure clean financial statements for monthly financial reviews.
  • Monitor gross profit for each location to ensure the results fall within reasonable expectations.
  • Have a clear understanding of different cost centers and their effect on the overall results of a location.
  • Working with accounting to book entries, post accruals, and manage inventory.

Business Insurance and Risk Management

  • Maintain overall oversight of the company's business insurance program across all locations.
  • Serve as primary internal point of contact for insurance brokers, carriers, and other insurance partners.
  • Partner with brokers and internal leadership insurance renewals, including reviewing coverage, premiums, deductibles, exclusions, and policy terms, and when business changes occur that require an update to coverage.
  • Audit insurance policies regularly to ensure appropriate coverage is maintained for the company's operations, locations, assets, vehicles, employees, and other exposures.
  • Monitor changes in the company's operations, locations, assets, and risk exposure and ensure coverage is adjusted accordingly.
  • Negotiate and evaluate insurance-related costs and terms with brokers and carriers, in coordination with CEO when appropriate.
  • Proactively identify and communicate operational risks that could create financial, insurance, or liability exposure for the company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Finance, Accounting, or a related field, preferred.
  • 5+ years of proven progressive operations leadership experience with demonstrated responsibility for multiple locations and operational teams.
  • Proven experience leading multi-location operations, preferably with responsibility for several General Managers or equivalent senior leaders.
  • Experience leading complex operational transitions, including acquisitions, new-location openings, integrations, operational scaling, location closures, consolidations, and other organizational restructuring initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of business financials, including EBITDA, revenue, gross profits, operating expenses, accounts receivable, collections, cash flow, and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated track record of improving profitability, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Proven ability establishing KPIs, goals, budgets, and performance expectations and hold senior leaders accountable for achieving them.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and strong experience working directly with or reporting to C-suite leadership, preferably the CEO, President, or owner.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to understand and interpret detailed financial and operational reports, identify problems, determine root causes, and implement measurable solutions.
  • Experience with insurance oversight, including policy reviews, renewals, audits, broker relationships, claims, coverage decisions, and identifying potential coverage gaps or risks.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, operational controls, and business continuity.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple locations.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Suite primarily including Excel and Business Central, business reporting and financial systems, with the ability to analyze data and create clear reports.
  • The ideal candidate is comfortable leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to improve business operations, increase efficiencies, automate processes, analyze data, and support better decision-making.
