Manager, Electrical Utility/High Voltage - Power & Distribution Team

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager of Electrical Utility/High Voltage leads the Power & Distribution team, overseeing professionals from junior to senior levels. This role involves mentoring, working with experienced engineers and designers. The manager is responsible for implementing departmental policies and strategies to achieve short-term goals, solving moderately complex challenges, and influencing broader organizational practices related to electrical utilities and high-voltage systems.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hiring - Initiate resource approval, collaborate with the Recruiter for reviewing, interviewing, and hiring staff.
  • Onboarding - Conduct first-day orientation, discipline-specific onboarding, and set expectations.
  • Offboarding - Follow procedures for voluntary and involuntary staff transitions.
  • Training & Resource Assignment - Ensure team members are equipped and assigned appropriately.
  • Proposal Reviews - Provide technical input and resource planning for proposals.
  • Performance Monitoring - Audit and assess team performance and deliverables.
  • Mentorship & One-on-Ones - Support professional development through regular engagement.
  • Engineering Tools & Standards - Maintain and improve tools, templates, datasheets, and standards specific to electrical utility and high voltage systems.
  • Budget Management - Manage or transition departmental budget responsibilities.
  • Client Engagement - Build and maintain client relationships, representing the discipline in meetings and communications.
  • Project Leadership - Act as Project Manager or Project Engineer for approximately 80% of the role, with a focus on electrical utility and high voltage projects.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical utility/high voltage systems, with at least 2 years in a managerial or project leadership role.

SKILLS

  • Technical Skills - Electrical system design, utility coordination, risk management, technical reporting, compliance, financial understanding, and project execution.
  • Soft Skills - Strong communication, collaboration, emotional intelligence, problem-solving, time management, mentoring, and adaptability.

KNOWLEDGE

  • In-depth understanding of electrical utility infrastructure, high voltage systems, codes and standards (e.g., CSA, IEEE, NEC), and power distribution design.

ABILITIES
