About the Finance Team: The Finance team supports LEDC’s mission by ensuring strong financial stewardship, accountability, and compliance across the organization. The team manages financial reporting, budgeting, grant and loan accounting, audits, and internal controls to support informed decision-making and responsible use of resources.

Working collaboratively across departments, the Finance team plays a key role in maintaining financial integrity while supporting the programs and services that advance economic opportunity in the communities LEDC serves.

Position Summary: The Director of Finance leads the day-to-day financial operations of LEDC as the organization’s senior finance leader. This role is accountable for the full scope of accounting, reporting, compliance, budgeting, and financial systems management. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Finance ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and continuity of core Finance functions, while the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer retain responsibility for overall organizational strategy, Board relations, and major financial decisions.

The Director of Finance manages and develops the Finance team, serving as the team’s primary day-to-day leader, and partners closely with the COO, the CEO, program teams, and organizational leadership to support responsible stewardship of resources and mission-aligned decision-making.

• Lead the preparation and accuracy of financial statements, budgets, and financial reports in compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations.
• Partner with the COO and Chief Executive Officer to deliver timely, accurate financial data and analysis to support organizational decision-making.
• Monitor financial performance across the organization and provide regular financial analysis and reporting to the COO and Chief Executive Officer for use with the Board of Directors, funders, and other stakeholders.

• Oversee core accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger operations.
• Ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions, reconciliations, and maintenance of financial records.
• Maintain strong internal controls and ensure adherence to financial policies and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee financial systems and accounting infrastructure to ensure data integrity, security, and efficient workflows.

• Lead development of the organization’s annual budget, including cash flow and budget projections, in collaboration with the COO and Chief Executive Officer.
• Monitor departmental budgets and financial performance, partnering with department leaders to address variances and support financial targets.
• Provide financial guidance to program teams to ensure responsible use of funds and alignment with organizational priorities.
• Oversee compliance with federal funding requirements and federal grant management reporting, including Single Audits and grant-specific regulations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the annual financial audit, leading coordination of audit schedules, SEFA documentation, and financial components of the Form 990, and ensuring the integrity of financial statements and required schedules.
• Monitor changes in federal, state, and local financial regulations and advise the COO on associated compliance risks and required actions.

• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to strengthen financial operations and scalability.
• Assess financial and operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies related to accounting, reporting, and controls.
• Identify financial risks and opportunities arising in daily operations and flag them promptly to the COO, recommending mitigation or action steps as needed.
• Lead and develop the Finance team, including the Accounting Manager, the Accounting & Grants Manager, and the Senior Financial Portfolio Manager.
• Provide oversight and support to the Senior Financial Portfolio Manager on portfolio management, loan servicing, and lending account matters, ensuring alignment with overall financial strategy and reporting.
• Provide mentorship, coaching, and professional development to foster a high-performing, collaborative team culture.

• Actively participate as a member of LEDC's leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy, cross-departmental planning, and decisions beyond the Finance function.
• Provide day-to-day staff support to the COO and CEO on the Board of Directors' Finance Committee, including preparing financial reports and materials for Committee and Board meetings.
• Collaborate across departments to ensure financial practices align with program needs, compliance requirements, and organizational goals.
• Participate in grant-based fundraising activities by supporting proposal budgeting, financial narratives, and post-award reporting.

• Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field and at least six (6) years of relevant professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least five (5) years of management experience, including direct supervision of accounting or finance staff.
• Progressive experience in financial management, accounting operations, budgeting, and financial reporting, preferably within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial regulations, and federal grant compliance requirements, including Single Audits.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop finance teams while maintaining accountability, accuracy, and compliance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess financial data, identify risks, and recommend solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate financial information for non-financial stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Commitment to LEDC’s mission, values, and work supporting community-centered economic development.

• Occasional travel (less than 10%) to support other LEDC office locations, as needed.
• Access to reliable transportation.

• Experience working with Sage Intacct or similar nonprofit accounting and financial management systems.
• CPA or other relevant professional certification.
• Prior experience supporting board finance committees or presenting financial information to senior leadership or governing bodies.
• Experience participating in grant-based fundraising efforts, including proposal budgeting and financial reporting.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, with professional proficiency in reading, writing, and verbal communication in Spanish.
• Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment, such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners.
  • The office environment is generally climate-controlled; however, temperatures may vary, and some individuals may find it too warm or too cool at times.
• Hybrid Work Model: LEDC maintains a hybrid workplace model. In-office schedules vary by team, but all staff are expected to be able to report to the office any day of the week, as needed.
• Schedule: Typical office hours are Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm, however the finalized schedule is approved by this position’s supervisor. This is a full-time, exempt position which typically requires 40 hours per week.
• Primary Reporting Location: 1401 Columbia Rd. NW, Unit C-1, Washington, DC 20009.

• Ability to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods (e.g., sitting at a desk).
• Ability to move about the office to access files, office machinery, etc.

The salary range for this position is $121,646.00 - $153,021.00, commensurate with experience and team budget, and covers all hours worked. LEDC provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
