This role is eligible for our hybrid work model: Two days in-office.

At a Glance

The Development Manager is a critical technical leader within the Product Operating Model (POM), accountable for building high-performing engineering teams and ensuring the delivery of secure, scalable, and high-quality data solutions. This role serves as the primary connector between Product Managers, Architects, and Developers to align technical execution with business outcomes.

Why this job's a big deal:

As a Development Manager, your focus is on enabling teams to succeed by removing blockers and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. You guide the technical foundation for critical products-such as search platforms or marketing systems-influencing platform architecture and long-term strategy while ensuring systems are reliable and performant.

You will lead the modernization of our central Fintech Data Platforms, driving the evolution of data pipelines into GCP while shaping long-term data strategy for secure, high-scale financial systems. Crucially, you will balance this future-state vision with a commitment to maintaining the stable, high-quality delivery of our current data solutions

In this role, you will get to:

  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Hire, mentor, and coach engineers to foster career growth and technical excellence.

  • Delivery & Execution Management: Oversee timelines and commitments, facilitate Agile ceremonies (standups, sprint planning), and proactively identify and remove blockers.

  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with Product Managers to balance technical feasibility with business priorities and translate strategies into actionable technical roadmaps focusing on Data products.

  • Quality & Standards Guardianship: Enforce accountability for software quality, ensuring solutions meet security, performance, and scalability standards through CI/CD and code reviews.

  • Technical Innovation:

    • Lead the team in maintaining legacy pipelines while aggressively driving migration and development into modern GCP cloud data environments.

    • Drive the adoption of emerging technologies, such as Generative AI or Machine Learning, to enhance product capabilities and user experiences.

Who you are:

  • Proven Leader: An experienced engineering manager with a track record of hiring and developing talent in fast-paced, Agile environments.

  • Pragmatic Problem Solver: A "crafty" solver who can balance technical excellence with delivery pressure and find win-win solutions.

  • Data & Cloud Expert: Proficient in data warehousing methodologies and modern cloud data stacks (GCP ecosystem).

  • Legacy & Integration Knowledgeable: Familiar with Oracle dbms(SQL & PL/SQL), Informatica pipelines and enterprise systems like Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) R12/R12.2

  • Collaborative Communicator: Skilled at building alignment across cross-functional stakeholders and translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

  • Values-Driven: An individual with an illustrated history of living core organizational values: Customer, Innovation, Team, Accountability, and Trust.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • Experience: Significant experience leading data engineering teams and driving the architecture of scalable pipelines and large-scale data warehouses.

  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Deep knowledge of cloud data warehousing (GCP BigQuery preferred), ETL/ELT pipeline design, and data modeling and architecture.

    • Strong experience with enterprise integration platforms (Informatica) and/or custom-built data integration frameworks.

    • Exposure to Java-based applications or codebases is a plus.

There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. In addition to a competitive base salary, certain roles may be eligible for an annual bonus and/or equity grant.

The salary range for this position is $130,000-155,000 CAD.
