Responsibilities:
- Lead daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD)
- Ensure proper sterilization procedures and accurate documentation
- Maintain instrumentation quality, functionality, and availability for surgical services
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to SPD staff
- Handle escalated customer service concerns and coordinate with other hospital departments
- Monitor productivity, workflow efficiency, and quality control measures
- Communicate team roles, expectations, and departmental goals clearly
- Recommend and implement process improvements
- Promote team collaboration and participation in departmental decisions
- Assist the Director with departmental budget management and monitoring
- Ensure compliance with all hospital, safety, and sterilization standards
Must-Have Skills:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3–5 years of Sterile Processing Department (SPD) experience
- 2–3 years of leadership experience as an SPD Supervisor or above
- Current CS/SPD certification through CBSPD or IAHCSMM/HSPA
- Knowledge of sterilization procedures and instrumentation standards
- Quality assurance and process improvement experience
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage departmental workflow and productivity
- Experience handling cross-functional communication with surgical teams and hospital departments
- Budget monitoring and operational oversight experience
- Ability to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds
Nice to Have Skills:
- Experience in high-volume surgical environments
- Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards
- Experience implementing workflow or operational improvements
- Staff training and mentorship experience
- Strong conflict resolution and customer service skills
- Familiarity with inventory management systems
