Job description

Position Title: Assistant Manager of Nursing
FLSA Status: Exempt
Department: Nursing

Reports To: Clinical Nurse Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The role oversees nursing services and staff during evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts, ensuring patient-centered care and operational continuity. It implements policies, union agreements, and regulatory standards, providing direct patient care when needed. Collaboration with the Director of Nursing and department managers ensures effective hospital administration during these shifts. Timely communication with nursing managers highlights patient care issues, operational risks, and improvement activities. As an Assistant Manager of Nursing, you will help to ensure that our patients and their families receive caring and dedicated service at REHAB.

Wage Range: $90,626.60 per year to $135,939.91 per year

The actual wage is dependent on the applicant's relevant experience and qualifications for this position. The wage range for this position may be subject to change in the future depending on a variety of factors such as market conditions, business needs, legal developments, and other appropriate factors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification/Licensure:

  • Valid State of Hawaii driver's license

STANDARD FOR PATIENT CARE POSITIONS:

  • Current State of Hawaii RN licensure.

  • Current BLS and ACLS certification

  • Completion of competencies and other job-related and REHAB requirements.

Education:

  • Associate's degree in nursing.

Skills/Experience:

  • Two (2) years of acute care medical-surgical and/or acute rehabilitation experience.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification/Licensure:

  • Rehabilitation Registered Nurse Certification (CRRN)

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing

Skills/Experience:

  • Two (2) years of Nursing Management Experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Ensures safe, continuous patient care by coordinating staffing, assessing unit needs, and leading staff decision-making.

  • Conducts rounds regularly to evaluate unit activities and address staffing or operational concerns.

  • Leads staff in adhering to patient safety goals, proper documentation, and effective use of resources.

  • Coordinates equipment needs, resolves deficiencies, and ensures readiness of code carts and other patient care supplies.

  • Collaborates with Nursing Managers and other departments to standardize procedures, provide in-services, and enhance nursing services.

  • Adjusts staffing to meet patient care needs, minimizes overtime, and communicates scheduling variances to relevant parties.

  • Promotes professionalism, customer service, and a safe working environment while maintaining confidentiality and respecting patient rights.

  • Participates in continuous improvement projects, audits, and educational programs to maintain accreditation preparedness and professional growth.

  • Serves as in-house administrator after hours, providing leadership, guidance, and communication with off-hours departments.

  • Follows and adheres to all organizational and departmental policies and guidelines, code of conduct, and REHAB employee handbook.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for the hiring, orienting, training, coaching, counseling and development of employees

  • Ensures the employees are trained appropriately and maintains adequate level of competency to perform job duties; develops personnel to meet future requirements. Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for improving processes.

  • Participates on hospital committees when requested.


FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • Assists Executive Leadership in preparing the department(s) assigned budgets

  • Maintains a fiscal responsibility to oversee assigned cost centers, monitors and tracks expenditures and provides explanations for variances.

  • Comprehends departments budget and presents on key metrics

  • Serves as the central resource for the development and implementation of strategies which are efficient, effective, timely, patient-centered, medically appropriate for an acute rehabilitation level of care, and supports appropriate financial reimbursement
